I have to say, I'm quite taken with it.

I didn't really have much idea of what a 110 was - only what I'd read on here. Because I am what Ben would call a tart (;)) I've just Brasso'd it up a bit too, and will be off looking for things to cut up in a moment :tu:

Being a tart is fine, as long as you are a user tart.  :D
I'm back!!

Looks like a nice 2006 model . Did you know the handle scales arent solid wood ? They are a laminate bond i.e plywood.

Yeah - I figured they weren't "real" wood. I guess a laminate will be more resilient would it? I can't get over the weight of the thing. It quite surprised me that.

Yes they are very heavy , it really suits it though . Theres something about them isn't there. I think its because we are so used to seeing copies of them with CHINA on the blade its really something to own the real thing  :D

Yeah good point.

In all honesty, it's not the most practical knife I have, but I'm certainly glad I own it. I'm not sure if I mentioned, but it came from Kelly - so thanks again Kel

Nice knife Dave.  Thanks for posting the pic's.  :tu:  Apparently it was around '92 when they stopped
using solid Ebony scale inserts for the Laminated Obeche wood.  I've some of the old 110's that I will
post pic's of in the near future.

That would be good if you could . Can you post both old and new in the same shot so we can see the difference please ?

Dunc,

Sure will do.  I am waiting for one in the mail that should be here shortly that I'd like to use and I sourced
out a decent background I thought kind of cool to place them on and snap a few pic's.

Smitty,
That's a nice one!  Looks to be like you say early 70's.  Does the Buck USA read tip up or is it
inverted?  A couple of good closeups shots at varying angles including the butt of the knife and
I could probably ID it pretty close in year and which Version and Variation it is.  Anyhow, :tu:

There is an amazing amount of scale options and it's a very customized knife as I've found out very recently.

Very hard to see in pic.,but with the tip pointed down you can read BUCK ,and the USA below is in real small print, about a forth the size, hope this helps Sean.

Thanks for the pic's Smitty.  It sure is a nice one.

I might take a stab at this and say it's a Fifth Version, Variation 1.  This would give it the year of about
1970-'72.

The Fifth Versions have the stainless spacer at the back of the knife (yours). Previous one's were pretty
much all brass.
Also, the rocker rivet on the fifth's were stainless headed as well (yours). On the fourths they were brass.
It takes a little bit of time to date these knives prior to '86 when they started stamping the blades with their
symbols but can be done with a little scouting about.

Very nice knife though it looks to be in great shape.  :tu:

Smitty,
You are welcome.  I have a couple of fourth version, variation 2's, one is a user the other is mint I don't even
know if it's ever seen a stone.  I have another earlier one coming in the mail pretty soon which should be pre-
70's and that's why I'm waiting on taking some pic's.  Most of the one's I see out there for sale right now are
the same vintage that you and I have.  I'd really like to pick up a first version knife and there are
two variations on that one but they are scarce as heck.
 :)

I recently, finally, replaced the 110 (2nd) I lost a couple years ago. I lost my first one too.  :-\

I never realized how much I missed my 110 until I replaced it.

I'll be getting a G-10/BG-42/nickle silver (if I can ever find one), an S30V/Asian Waterbuffalo/nickle silver from the custom shop and a charcoal 420HC/diamondwood/nickle silver eBay) versions.

With my other "big folders":

The question where I grew up was who does NOT own a Buck 110.

At times it is almost a crime to see such a workhorse all dolled up.  But then to each his own.

Cut up too many critters, fixed too many things with one to think of it as anything else.  It was always fun when not in the home area to pull it out when someone was having a problem fixing somthing with what I considered a toy.  Just stated never send a boy to do a man's job, and men have the knife to do it.

How do you keep the brass bolster from tarnishing? I like the knife but not tarnished brass.

I bought some of that "never dull" and some "brasso."  It doesn't keep it from tarnishing but does
a pretty good job of buffin' them up.

Too bad there's no nickel silver bolster version in Canada. That plus s30v/154cm I'd willing to overlook the weight and carry one.

I know what you mean.  You can get them in both the s30v and the 154cm though.  :)
