New knife for Micky D

Browsing through Cabelas new cutlery offerings I came across this big pigsticker:

Well it's an OK attempt at a German style hunting sword but the quillions are odd (really shouldn't have bits that dig into your hand) and the clip-point wouldn't normally be seen on them. Should really be either a straight blade or a uniform curved shape.

Now, I'll admit this matched set might be a tad heavy for backpacking, but it looks ideal for weekend camping.

Oddly enough I do have one of those (not such good condition though) and we were playing with it at the meet-up. It's an interesting bit of kit shall we say, the grip has to be the most uncomfortable I've ever held on any kind of cutting tool. I'd love to know what the logic was behind that.

"So what's it going to be used for"?

"Well the chaps are going to be swinging it around for hours at a time clearing paths in tropical Burma".

"Best we make the handle really boxy and with sharp edges".
