Help me make up my mind
on: July 28, 2009, 08:23:21 PM
I have, use and love an old school B60,  Well it started life as a B60 any way.  I have edc it for years it never leaves my side.  I don't currently own any other multitools.  I had previously owned several mutlis all by the major makers and the Power lock just always suited me.  It was love at first sight and with the awesome BO finish it just gets prettier the more I use it.   :tu:

But it has two problems I don't like,  no gear cover and no outside opening tools.  So I have decided to try a new SOG.

You would think after hearing what I don't like about the B60,  I'd go straight for the B66 or B67.  But I'm still not sold on the stupid assisted opening blades,  which in my opinion go against the number one rule of the universe,  Keep it simple stupid.  Not to mention the lost tool space.

Another problem with it is the B seems to be disproportionately expensive compared to an S,  S66 shipped is $56,  B66 shipped is $85.   Where is the cheapest place for a B66?  If I try a power assist do they keep their value?

What would you do? Power lock 2.0 or Power assist.

Thanks.

Are all power locks being changed to the 2.0?  It would be cool for my next sog to have the gear covers and a bunch of different components then what I have with the B-60. So then I could mix and match.

Sucks no one seems to like the power assist.  Oh well maybe the next multi tool they make will do outside tools right.

yes, theres only some leftovers that kept the old handle or the old plier head, but mostly all powerlocks are 2.0 now AFAIK

i do like to get me a powerassist, but my powerlock is going nowhere far from my everyday bag :D

You need one of each  :pok:

Then you can decide which one to carry!

I would love to play with the Power assist but I don't see it ever being a EDC.  Sacrifice to much in my opinion,  and all you gain is assisted opening blades.  Something that seems pretty much useless on a multi tool.

I also like how they have the little clips on the body for the tool door.  I wish the Power lock had those.  OH well.

I'm gonna go with a B69,  As soon as I get it I'm swapping the components out.  I would like to have it be a B60 with no awl, no bottle opener.  My Glock tool and a v-cutter added.  Is that possible without getting rid of one of the other long tools.

I noticed the C4 spike is 3 slots.  Is it just really short?  Is the V cutter a single slot tool?

What I had in mind for the B69 body is:

Side A -

Scissors
1/4" Drive
V cutter
3" straight blade

Side B -

File
Can opener
Philips
Straight
Glock Tool
Saw

Think it's do able?  Thanks guys.
