Bail/lanyard hole equiped slipjoint's?
on: August 01, 2009, 11:59:12 PM
I'm in need a beater slippie for work now that I've had to retire my 100mm Vics due to them sliding out of my pockets everytime I bend down (not ideal in a school :-\) so I'm looking for sugestions :)

The only stipulations are...

Must be robust and reliable, as it will be worked hard.

It has to have either a bail or a lanyard attachment.

Be a slippie with a blade of 3inches or less.

And be available in the UK for a budget of less than £35 please.

Thanks in advance guys :tu:

A Solo is the obvious choice.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I agree :), but it's still a bit too familiar :-\ I'm thinking more in terms of a Case/traditional type slippie :)

Well, I was going to suggest one of these............

.............but then I don't know of it's availability in the UK, and if it is available it's going to cost more than £35.  :(

That is nice and if Mike were in the USA it'd be in budget but over here you could probably double the price, if you could find one :(

Not that I have one but a EKA Compact might fit your bill.

No connection etc but here's an example: http://www.moonrakerknives.co.uk/ekanordicf.htm

I always thought it would make a sturdy work knife.

What about Trevor Ablett? - LINK

Some the models are equipped with bails...not sure if the dimensions shown are blade length or handle length

Spork,

I've handled one, the Orange G-10 matter of fact. They are tiny aren't they? Been wanting one myself just to add to my Scout collection......just haven't yet.

Yeah they're teeny...I was expecting something more the size of a Cub scout.

I'm not a great fan of BAK's if I'm honest :-\ As apart from being mega robust, they've not much going for them. Plus there too bulky and uncomfortable for work :-\

Thanks for the sugestion though as I'll probably get another one, just as a collectors piece :tu:

The EKA is not bad for the price. The handle is a hollow plastic shell that has a cheapish feel to me...which is probably why I haven't carried or used mine much.

I find no fault with the blade though, it's thin and sharp. Backspring tension is good, about on par with a Farmer...and opens smoothly.

Well, that's a shame as I have been wanting to get a Trevor Albett. But if their standard of F&F consists of gaps and uneven grinds I am going to pass as well. Even more disheartening is to have a representative of such claim their standard is that.  ???

Someone I know ordered an Ablett not long ago and is happy with it...he is already thinking about ordering another.

I'm usually not concerned much about minor cosmetic issues...as long as it cuts well and the walk-n-talk are good.
