I need a necropsy knife (Opening up animals):
1.) Have to be one piece of metal no handles for easy cleaning.
2.) Blade must not be thick.
3.) 5 inch blade.
4.) Handle must have no design for easy cleaning and disinfection.

A stainless plastic handled Mora is probalby best. Cheap, thin blade, easy to clean. They are extremely sharp if you keep the scandi grind, and since you are only cutting open animals they should stay sharp reasonably long as well.

Take a look through here: http://www.ragweedforge.com/SwedishKnifeCatalog.html

What size animals?

I'd check medical supply places online..

I've also heard that onyx is the sharpest material on earth and is used for surgery sometimes...I got to google that...

How about a CRKT dog fish (one piece of steel, nothing else).  Maybe too may nooks and crannies, though?

It seems to me that performing a Necropsy on an animal would be similar to butchering one and have the same requirement of sanitation...so kitchen and butchering knives should do the job.

In fact, they sell what looks like standard kitchen knives here - Necropsy Knife

Have a look at the Victorinox/Forschner line of kitchen cutlery with Fibrox or Microban handles.

Hey I was typing in that link myself!  :twak:  :D

Well, here's the picture anyway. Not a bad set for under $30.

I don't think that is a set...they are using the same image for four different knives.

Buck Harstook?  I know you wanted a five inch knife, and this one is smaller, but it is thin and tough and will handle any skinning you might do.
Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestions, forgot to include that I will be carrying the knife too to double as my farm knife.
The CKRT dog fish looks promising but the don't like the holes on the handle.
haven't looked at the Buck Hartook yet and the onyx.
Plastic handles won't do hard to sterilize.

If you insist on no handle you can buy scandi blanks. Scroll down there are a few with full tang instead of stick tang.

Oh, there's also the spyderco mule in either ZDP189 or S90V flavor.  >:D

Here's the deal...

Necropsies are performed with a couple different knives/scissors. To get through skin, generally replaceable blades are preferred because skin dulls blades fast. Autopsy/Necropsy blades can be bought in 2 inch long (5 cm) blades, down to tiny 2 mm blades for fetal autopsy.

Once through the skin, more rounded tips (and less pointy) are better because it prevents accidental perforation of the colon or large blood vessels.

Curved tip scissors with rounded tips, are better for dissection than a blade.  Long blades are good for slicing organs.  There is a special pair of gut scissors for "running the bowel".
