E-readers and E-books
on: September 17, 2009, 08:08:23 PM
My company is doing a big push for E-readers and E-books for this holiday season. So much so we have redone the entire area towards the front of the store and have dedicated up to 1100 square feet just for this program.

I haven't personally got to mess with one in great depth yet but it seems like a good idea....having books on a device you can take with you. The screen looks like a piece of parchment so you don't get eye strain like on a PC screen. I haven't seen the price per E-book yet either..which could prob make or break this new technology.

E readers go for about 299 bucks...so what do you think?

It is a nice option. I use Kindle on my iPhone personally. It is VERY handy when you have time to kill and a few books on hand. I can see where this would definitely cater to the folks without the iPhone or Touch. The problem with the iPhone / Touch is it is a free application. New release books (talking hard covers here) are 10 bucks. Which is 40 percent or less the price of a regular hard copy. For me that's what makes it appealing. $299 wouldn't be a bad deal if the books can be applied to the reader for free or close to it. In the long run it would be much cheaper then how I go about things if that were the case. I guess it all really depends on the variables. Reguardless, I hope it gets a lot of attention this holiday season at your place of business.

I was looking at these in a local bookshop last weekend and they look like like a great idea.

I'd certainly be interested in one if I had any money!

I used to come here a lot.

I'm not a big fan of the E-book thing.  I use them occasionally if by some miracle I don't have at least one book with me.  I think it's a great idea thought.  People are so gadget oriented these days that devices like that are really handy.  I'm just partial to actual books.

I read e-books almost exclusively.  At the moment, I am several chapters into Dan Brown's latest book.

I have been reading ebooks for years, first on my Palm devices then on my Windows machines, and to be honest, I'll probably never leave MS branded devices since I have so many .lit (Microsoft type) ebooks.

I personally don't care for dedicated ebook readers since they are usually about the same price as a PDA or smartphone, and they really only have the one function.

Those look interesting.I could see were those could come in handy.
Like backpacking, fishing trip, sitting in treestand etc. .They would be
much smaller than a book and less likely to become damaged.

I'm interested in it, but I still prefer the book in my hands. I like hitting thrift stores up for random books. =P

Oh... and I can't afford it! :ahhh

I always have my phone with me when I leave the house.  I may not know where I'm going to end up or how much time I have to waste when I get there, so I rarely ever brought books with me, although I did wish I had.

Since they are in my phone/PDA, and I always bring it with me, I also have my book with me at all times too.
