Okay, no I'm not gonna hop on the soap box....although I really, really want to.
The other day I asked Grant what a troll was in reference to the forums, he told me (i'm paraphrasing) that a troll was someone who posted stuff on a forum without any basis for their comments or opinions strictly for the purpose of pissing off other people in order to get some laughs out of it or to get attention.  The questionable "preacher" who made those comments on the radio is a troll...nough said.

When I think of idiots like him I think of Jesus. The REAL Jesus. The one who ate with sinners, who associated with prostitutes and tax collectors. He ate with these "sinners" and all he did was love them and try to persuade them to love one another. He didn't stand in the streets and tell them they're "going to hell" nor did he tell his followers to do the same thing.

If you read the Bible(get a modern copy, skip the King James Version) for yourself, and NOT have an idiot preacher read it for you you'll notice that Jesus mainly had the harshest words for the religious authorities of the day, the Pharisees, who, just like today's fundamentalist Christians, love to point to a line of Scripture and show how you're "sinning" and how they're so much better.

With the possible exception of Tax Collectors (Debt collectors Maybe ), I'm damn near a holy man.


Actually, since this thread can only benefit from swift derailment -

A number of local churches are setting up a "Street Pastors" effort to serve water and pancakes to violent drunks from 11 to 3pm in order to reduce assaults and disorderly behaviour.

This seems like good churchy behaviour. I can only support any religion that has free pancakes.

A very excellent point, DTH!  And thank you for making it.  Without opening yet another can of worms and a debate which I have engaged in way, WAY too many times with various people I would like to say this:

It breaks my heart that people continue to use the Bible and God as a means to hurt, ridicule, demean, torture, and murder other people.  It breaks my heart that with all that goes on in the world right now, the war, the terrorism, abuse that people like that so called pastor can still spout such utter crap.  It seems to me that nowadays especially, we'd have all learned that we all bleed the same damn color and what we should be worried about not whether a person is this way or that way, but whether the person standing next to us on the street or sitting next to us on a plane is a friend or not. 

I think this was a great topic to post here because it seems to me that the so called preacher needs a good multitool to remove the stick that is so firmly stuck up his @$$!!!

after watching "Bruno" last night, Sacha Baron Cohen has done another great job of pointing out how narrow minded and rediculous some people really are. Of course the movie pushes past any extremes he set in "Borat", but that was to be expected...

But here in the UK we've a small problem of clerics inspiring hatred in our youths, who then go on to commit act's of terrorism

Oops.  Was under the impression this guy was speaking out in the U.S.A. where free speech is guaranteed by the 1st Amendment of the Constitution.

If he's in the U.K. then perhaps he doesn't have the right to free speech.

IIRC the U.K. has no written constitution, so personal rights depend to a greater extent on the whims of the current crop of politicians in office?
