An other Skeletool sold today
on: September 17, 2009, 11:20:29 PM
I was shopping at Wally World today, and stopped to look at the knife section again,I ask the teller if he could give me a good deal,it was marked at $67,and he said he would give me the best he could, and it rang up for $57,I said is that what your selling it for,and he said yes,I couldn't get the money out of my billfold fast enough,so far I like the size, and don't have to carry an extra folder either.

Hope you like it. I was seriously considering buying a plain edge CX but I think finances are going to prevent me from doing so.  :(

Good find.

When I read the title, I thought that you meant that you sold the tool.

I couldn't wait to read a reason why????

I've been driving all around Kansas looking for a mountain to climb, but haven't found one yet,but it is becoming one of my favorite EDC tools, and when I find a new CX with plain edge,I'll be looking to buy one.

I can't even imagine a salesperson at my local Walmart giving me, or anyone else, a price break.  I wouldn't even think to ask, thinking they would think I was being a pest.  Now after reading your story I may have to give it a try.  I've worked retail in the past and everything is all about corporate policy.  People would try to deal with me and there was nothing I could do.  If you gave someone a break, it would be viewed upon the same as shoplifting.  Sounds like luck was on your side.  I would seek out that salesperson every time I was buying something there.   :D

I remember seeing one of those "consumer" programs in the UK years ago, where they said you should haggle at all of the big stores. I was sceptical, until I learned that the manager of most big chain stores usually has a margin he's allowed to discount, and then he has a staff discount that he can pass on too, if he needs the sales to hit his targets.

It works quite often actually, so I haggle for just about everything, especially the big stuff like TVs. Sometimes you might only get a few quid knocked off a 500 quid iitem, but it's become something of a principle now. What is there to lose?
I used to come here a lot.

All the chain places in the US are all about the "up sale".  "Would you like an apple turnover with your sandwich", "If you buy this laptop and three other computer related attachments, you get X% off those attachments", "That electronic device only has a one year limited warranty, for X$ you can get a Product Replacement Plan or a Technical Support Plan".  On and on with the addon's.  I was in a store the other day and an elderly couple were buying a cheap lamp.  The salesperson, a young girl, droned out the typical statement about getting a Product Replacement Plan.  The elderly couple actually bought it on this cheap lamp and the check out girl was so caught off guard that someone actually bit she didn't know what to do.  LOL.  She had to call a more experienced cashier over to tell her how to enter it.  When I worked retail, this was years ago, it was similar but now it's even worse.  They don't want you to just buy the item you came for but walk out with a bunch of other stuff because "it's a deal".

Same over here for what it's worth. Bloody extended warranties too, and insurance that make the thing cost double. Apparently that's where all the profit is fo rthe "stack 'em high, flog 'em cheap" stores. They make next to nothing on the sale, but the extras are pretty much pure profit.

I used to come here a lot.

Yep, that and rebates.  They know that a small percentage will actually send it the rebate and a smaller percentage will actually use the extended warranties.
