Follow-up to "Bad morning -- rant on"

I spoke with our local County Sheriff's office. The "hunter" in question does not live in my county. Because of this my local County Sheriff's office will not be doing anything else regarding this matter. Ok, great, I understand but I don't like it.

However, I am waiting for a call from Washington Department of Fish & Game Enforcement officer. The woman who took down my information was not happy with the "hunter" in question and even called him an idiot. Truthfully, I don't think much will come of it. However, another part of me hopes that they like to crack down on guys like this because they do give legitimate hunters a bad name and hurt the sport. We will see and I will keep you updated.

I hope they catch him too. Bad hunters(and gun owners) probably only account for 2-3% of the population but they make life hard on the rest of the responsible people who enjoy those things.

Good for you! Asshats like that give the rest of us a bad name! Honestly, I'm just about as rednecked as it gets, & guys like that piss me off to no end for makin' the rest of us look bad! Instead of calling the Police, you should have called the game warden on him, & truth be told, that's probably who he thought you were contacting when he took off so quickly. The game warden has greater jurisdiction in regards to matters like this, & if anything like the wardens in my area, would more than likely hang him on the cross for hunting your property without your permission.

I had a talk with a Washington Department of Fish & Game Enforcement officer yesterday afternoon ..... very nice guy with 20 years of service doing his job. He told me Washington State is a "no post" state which means property owners are not required to post no trespassing and/or no hunting signs on their property. That it is up to the hunter to ask permission of the property owner prior to hunting on their land.

Ok, Ralph (enforcement officer) told me based on the information I had provided they know who the individual is and asked how I would like to proceed.

My two options are:
1) Ralph give the hunter his Miranda rights and interviews him, interviews me, writes up his report and hands it over to the prosecutors office.
2) Ralph just scares the crap out of the guy with the possibility of huge fines, hunting license suspension, possible gear confiscation .... basically a major tongue lashing/reprimand and we all move on.

I instructed Ralph to speak with the hunter and see if he's sincere, apologetic and admits he was in the wrong then proceed to scare the crap out of the guy OR see if he's still in denial and believes he did nothing wrong. That IF he is truly remorseful and admits he was wrong, that the tongue lashing/reprimand, scare him to death tactics would be fine with me. BUT, if he stuck to his lame story and was not truly sorry and does not admit wrongdoing that I would like Ralph to take statements and hand it over to the prosecutors office.

Ralph believed this was a good plan of action and will get back to me in a day or so with an update.

I agree with you 100%. If that is the case and he is a repeat violator, I will take it as far as I can through the legal system.

I really hope Ralph is about 6'8", 320lbs, and sounds like a really pissed off James Earl Jones...   

The type of yutzes like the one you're dealing with usually are the biggest blowhards/cowards on the face of the planet, so maybe a good scare chat (or what we used to call the "come to Jesus" talk) will show him the error of his withered soul...

If not, maybe Ralph will get peeved and will shoot him...
