B/O Powerlock versus Stainless Steel...
on: September 23, 2009, 12:23:26 AM
Hi everyone

I recently bought two powerlocks, a black oxide one and a regular stainless steel one (I knew life would get expensive when I discovered multitools).

They're both the model with exposed gears and v-cutters.

The thing is they "feel" completely different.  Not the finish.  The feel.

The black one feels lighter and dare I say it... ... cheaper(?)  (I will weigh them and post the results).

The stainless steel one feels awesome - like an expensive thing.  But the black one (which funnily enough was expensive) feels like a cheap thing.  The stainless one has got "sog sog sog" on the pliers and the b/o has just got "sog" and the pliers seem more "pointy"...

Has anyone else known this or any info on it?

Cheers

I have noticed the same exact thing. But I have an S60 and a B60,  the S just feels more finished. Not a clue why though.

Maybe it has to do with the high polish SOG does on the shiny finish models, versus the "matte" bead blast finish they do on the black oxide ones? ???
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Obviously what you speak of is the SOG quality SOG to SOG SOG SOG ratio.

The BO Powerlock suffers from 1/3rd the quality and is marked thus... :D
Got those frog legs.

You may laugh but I think you're probably right!

The strange thing is that the stainless one is definately heavier (despite same model/tools) but as mentioned I've not weighed them (yet).

Don't get me wrong I still like the b/o one it isn't crap but there's definately a difference.

 ???

Maybe the stainless ones just have a stockpile of hidden rust we can't see.  lol Either way my EDC will always be a BO.  The one tool in my B60 that isn't BO is my straight edge knife blade  and every time I use it I notice the thing has a couple of new specks of rust on it.

My line of work BO is a must.
