black file

just got a black oxide Surge from Tyler Tool... but the metal file only has the shank part black. On the Leatherman website products such as the Wave have black metal files.  So what gives?  The black also doesnt look as neat and pretty on as on the website.

Must be the diamond coating doesn't take black oxide well? Not surprising come to think of it. :-\
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

None of my BO tools have a diamond file so mine are all fine :) but I can see your point as to why they wouldn't take the BO well :-\ Sorry to hear it zimabog :-[

im not disappointed, just confused since i saw it on the other files, maybe they dont have diamonds.  I am going to replace the file with a Bosch hacksaw blade though.

The diamond particles are adhered to steel base with nickel if I recall. BO finish is basically chemically induced rust, so it doesn't work on either nickel or diamond particle.

I got my BO Surge used, and I didn't get the file attachment with it, so I can't say whether it would have been BO or not.

The only BO Diamond file I have is on a Charge (pictured), so it looks as though they can blacken them if needs be! I would guess though that with use, you would eventually see the silver metal shine through anyway? I've shown a regular Diamond file for comparison.

I used to come here a lot.
