I don't get it
on: October 10, 2009, 11:15:06 PM
I have not owned my freestyle long but the lock did not seat or lock up real well. It would catch the edge of the lock surface (don't know the right name) and I felt the lockup was less than safe if used really hard. Course not like I would use it that hard since it's a very small knife. Well today I was using it and dropped it on the carpeted floor and picked it up not thinking anything about it. Next time I opened it the lock up was SPOT ON dead center with the blade's lockup area. So wait, your telling me....I dropped it and now it locks up more secure than it did when I bought it? Maybe I should drop all my knives that don't lockup correctly   What you guys think? How come it did this? Anyone else ever seen this happen?

There's only one logical explanation for this. Magic.
I used to come here a lot.

I think I've only had one knife that I had issues with and it was a Kershaw Skyline with a liner lock.  I ended up
taking it back because you could release the lock just by "lightly tapping" the spine of the blade against my leg.
Biggest problem with a liner lock is that if they don't lock up properly they can be a bit dangerous because there's
not much holding the blade open and could fall.  I remember posting it on Blade Forums
and laughing because some of the guys started telling me about being sick and tired of guys "spine whacking"
blades to test lock strength etc.  Anyhow blah, blah.  :)

Glad it rectified the problem with your tool though.  Keep an eye on it. :)

There are a couple of things that could have happened. You may have flexed the lock bar, kind of "bowed" a little that would have shortened it just enough to make it the proper length. Or, there could have been a lottle slop in the pivot pin that fell into place when you droped it. I have always slapped the knife aginst the work bench edge down when making a framelock. Just to be sure it was "seated" in the place before final fitting of the lock. This takes some time, and another reason I do not make too many of these. Put it togther, check for lock up, take apart, sand, reassemble, and do it over till it is right. Whew.
