When does a buyer gets his feedback?
on: October 23, 2009, 11:18:36 PM
Just sold a knife on another forum. The buyer demanded feedback immediately after payment, because pay for the item and his part is done.

Is it?

Well to me submit feedback is the conclusion of the transaction, which ends when I get confirmation the package has arrived in good condition and he's happy with it (with in reason) since that's my responsibility, and if it's lost or broken I'll refund the money and deal with canada post myself. But the buyer doesn't agree and insist that since he paid he should get positive feedback NOW.

So is the feedback only for if buyer paid or not? I think not, it should also include interactions until the sale concludes, of course including how buyer reacts in case of missing package (if he's okay with refund or insists me to buy a brand new one and mail him via next day air), or any unrealistic expections (you sold me a knife with scratches? I want one brand new in box for half of regular price!), you know these type of people are out there.

But in the end I just don't want to bother arguing and told him I'll submit his feedback now and consider the transaction complete.  ::)

I'm with you entirely on this but most people I've discussed it with disagree and consider that a buyer's job is done once the seller has the cash  :-\
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I have been given feedback both ways :) I am a buyer more times than not and try and leave feedback as soon as I get item and would not be fussy about a person waiting til I left the feedback. :tu: So I am with you on it

Well, technically, I think the buyer is correct, in as much as he's done his bit, presumably satisfactorily once he's paid you. The only thing left to do is for him to rate how well you perform delivering the item. It it all goes pear-shaped, it can't really be the buyers fault unless he lies about the delivery (which is where recorded delivery come is)! I generally would leave feedback as soon as payment is received.

The fact that it bothers this guy, and that he's arguing the toss makes me wonder what his motives are though - you wouldn't think it was that big a deal  ???

In the old days on ebay, sellers would sometimes hold back on giving feedback until the buyer had left feedback for them , which is basically a form of blackmail IMO. I.e. "if you leave negative feedback for me, I'll leave negative feedback for you". Neil will know exactly who I'm thinking of when I mention one particular ebay seller who was famous for this. Ebay termed this "retaliatory feedback" and eventually changed the system because it was becoming a fairly big issue.

I suppose the real point though is that feedback is optional isn't it? You're not required to leave any at all, just encouraged to, so surely you can do what you like?

I used to come here a lot.

Feedback is a rating/comment on one's experience with another person during a transaction.

A seller cannot possibly rate his experience with a buyer until their transaction/experience is completed.

A transaction cannot be concluded until the buyer has confirmed his receipt and satisfaction with the goods.

Therefore, the guy is wrong....

Many people do expect feedback upon payment but I think they are wrong.  :P

It's probably not worth losing any sleep over though. You can always just add a follow up if he turns out to be a jerk, no?

Ive had feedback given both ways. It matters not to me but I prefer both parties be satisfied and then feedback given.

I think it is a bit odd to want the feed back so fast i usually wait for the transaction to be complete but hey if that makes your customer happy i would do it.

I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.
