Broke my Charge's clip
on: November 08, 2009, 09:55:09 PM
I know it's a personal preference, but I'm one of the pocket clip multitool kinda guys. I really don't carry my multis that don't have clips. Ever since I got my SideClip, my Charge doesn't get as much pocket play as it used to but I decided to carry it to work yesterday. I was sitting at work & just moved funny in my chair & the clip sheered right off where it is held by the locking mechanism. My question is do you think Leatherman will cover that under warranty? I know they're not expensive, but I'm mega cheap.

I would hope so!

That's not the first case I've heard of the clips breaking, which is odd because they appear to be pretty heavy duty. I pocket clip my Charges plenty, and swap the same clip from tool to tool, over and over without any upset so far.

Whereabouts did it snap?
I used to come here a lot.

Right at the weakest point. just inside where the tooth of the locking mechanism catches the clip. Exactly where there is no way to rig it to stay in.

Oooh. That makes me worry about how secure the lanyard ring might be. I don't use it that often, but when I do, it's when I'm worried I could lose my tool  :-\

Honestly, I don't think the lanyard rig would break before it simply slid out. Not sure about yours, but my lanyard ring is a thinner metal than the clip was.

Yeah, exactly. It seems to lockup just fine, but if the clip can break........

Yeah, its a bit worrying isn't it.  I've not had any trouble with the pocket clips before though - it could have been just a faulty clip.

It might be safer to use the slide-out lanyard ring form now on Dave :)

That's what I'm thinking too Rich.

I don't use it very often at all - but when I do, I want to trust it!

The same exact thing happened to me.  Technically no, it's not covered by warranty, but call them.  I was very satisfied with their response  :tu:

If its any help Dave I used my lanyard clip on my wave for about 6 months solid at work in a horizontal carry position with no probs at all and I'm a kind of clumsy guy who bumps into things alot  :D

I agree, clips are an accessory and won't be covered under warranty but it would not hurt to send them an e-mail and try.

same thing recently happened to me! i was moving a desk and it caught and bent open 90 degrees, it then snapped when I tried to bend it back.  I miss it, but I don't think it is a warranty thing for those.  I see clips on ebay, but I would rather get a pack of 10 for cheap, then a set of clip and ring for like ten bucks
