Always depends on how much you want to spend, options range from a simple magled drop in to full blown HID.

I would suggest contacting ElektroLumens. Last year I purchased a modded Maglite from Wayne......he was doing SSC P7 LED upgrades to D and C cell Mag's. Here's some pics of mine. Mine is a 3 D-cell Mag:

Mag on left is the ElektroLumens P7 upgrade. Mag on right has the Terralux SSC P4 drop-in....

Below is a side by side comparison of these two. The hot spot on the left is from the Terralux modded Mag and on the right is the blinding beam from the ElektroLumens P7 Mag........

I believe Wayne is doing drop-in versions of this mod now.

That ElektroLumens P7 looks awesome.

Wayne really knows what he's doing with the dropins.  I was always intending to try one of those, but then he stopped making them IIRC.  Maybe he's started up again.

I've been lusting after one of Wayne's AngleLux lights for a long time too.

Thanks 2x!  I just email Wayne.  I have to ask though, where did you get those bezels?  I like the one on your black mag...

Waynes stuff is superb.  :tu:  I have a Blaster III of his and it makes 3D Maglites feel light and fragile in comparison.

I dropped in a Terralux led for Maglite 3C.  For the price, I'm very pleased with the improvement.

There's another upgrade that'll throw 500 lumen, but it's around $100.  :o

Link to the upgrade I did

ringzero,

I haven't been to ElektroLumens site in a while nor have I spent much time at CPF recently so I don't know if he has stopped these or not, but I do remember some mention of a drop-in version of this mod not all that long ago. I could be wrong though.

ecfiffer,

The bezels were ordered from a guy over on CPF. His handle over there is KIU. He does some of these up ever once in a while and I got on the list for these a while back when he was doing them. Not sure when or if he has done these again.

Looks like Wayne is still building some outrageous lights:
http://www.elektrolumens.com/

Updated versions of EDC and Blaster are still offered.

I'm still tempted by his AngleLux:

100 lumens for over 24 hours sounds good to me.

His Mag dropins no longer seem to be available though.

ringzero,

Yeah, I went and looked too and it looks like he isn't offering these P7 Mods as a standard option to his line anymore. Though he might do them on request, not sure. It appears he had been offering a few different SSC P7 and CREE MC-E drop-ins for a while as well.

Why Maglite still produces their Incan and weak LED versions of the bigger Mag's is beyond me. These P7 upgrades are easily within their ability to do......Wayne's mod to these really makes them a worthwhile light again. And it runs on regular Alkaline D-cells. I've gotten about 3 hours runtime on fresh D's at nearly full output in this thing, and we are talking in the range of 600-700 Lumens......even higher if ran with some rechargeable 12,000mAh D cells.

ecfiffer,

Sounds good bud, I thought he likely would. Wayne does alot of one off custom jobs so I figured if asked he would throw one together for you. He is a class act and does awesome work. Did he mention whether or not it would be a drop-in or permanent mod?

Mine is a permanent mod, with the heatsink pressed in and the LED run direct drive. great output and real good runtime.

Get the coin together for one as soon as you can, they are worth it. Also, I suggest if and when you get one of these be sure to replace the factory plastic lens with a UCL.....it makes a noticable difference in the visual output and beam quality. I put UCL's in both of my modded Mags.
