I never realized......
on: November 13, 2009, 08:39:30 PM
How freakin big 18650 batteries were untill they showed up in the mail the other day. The dx pics are deceiving with no reference point. Here's a few pics with AA & AAA little brothers along with the light it goes in(Trustfire 801 also bigger than I thought -duh)and a couple of beamshots for the hell of it. Its probably the brightest light I have at the moment with the R2 emitter:

I've never even heard of those. Are they common?
I used to come here a lot.

Isn't it roughly the equivalent of 2 CR123's?

I guess they're common in the flashaholic community...but you can't get them in a retail store as far as I know, online is only place I know of.

I think they are equivalent in size to 2 cr123, but with 3.7-4.2 volts as oppeosed to 8 volts of the 2 cr123 cells

I have seen them in my local radioshack.  Thinking about picking up one for my Fenix TK10.

You'll need a charger as well if they're Li-on

A 17670 cell is the size of 2 CR123A's.

18650 is a little bit bigger.

18650 batteries with Solarforce L2 and Spiderfire X-03 battery tubes.

From top:  AW 17670, Trustfire 16340, AW 16340, CR123A

As you can see from this picture, the Trustfire 16340 cells are a bit bigger than they should be.

18650 won't fit in the body tube of TK10.  TK11 yes.

The advantage of the 18650 is the energy density.  They are 3.7-4.2 volt just as the RCR123 (16340) batteries are, but they are 2200-2600 mAh, vs the RCR123's 750-800 mAh.  So, they're twice as long as the RCR123, but will provide more than 3 times the runtime.

In case you guys didn't know, 18650 means that the cell is 18mm wide, 65 mm long.  RCR123s are 16340, or 16mm wide, 34 mm long.

AAA = 10440 or 10x44mm
AA = 14500 or 14x50mm
