leather man charge alx faulty?
on: December 03, 2009, 09:55:54 PM
hey

ive just received my charge alx in the post and think it might be faulty as when i open and close the file it scrapes the side of the case only slightly but still a brand new tool shouldnt do this?

or is it just where its wearing in?

and there is a slight bit of wobble on the two legs when the tools closed but it goes away when its open ( probably me being picky)

is any one else s  like this or should i send it back?

ryan,

I think most of them rub the aluminum side.  I know mine does and it does have a minor bit of play
in the legs when closed.  :)  When I close my file I usually give it a little push inwards and then it
minimizes the wear on the aluminum scale.

Does it matter really..?
Just press lightly on the file when closing, and the problem is solved..  ;)

You'll find the file can be moved away from the scale during opening and closing so it doesn't grind.  I wish I could give you better news, but if it's a user then just use it and don't worry about it!  It won't affect the function of the tool at all.

How bad is the "file rubbing"?

Does it just fit snugly against the black AL, of do you actually need to apply pressure to close it?

I used to come here a lot.

A minor disappointment certainly, but easily overlooked. Just ignore it. :)

Yup that happens on Charges.  It never bothers me, but I can see how it would bother others.

I wouldn't worry about it too much Ryan. My Charge does it slightly as well. No real fault in that. Great choice BTW and Welcome

For hardwork, The Charge ALX is my favorite.  Almost always my EDC on the Farm. Good Choice IMO.  :tu:

My Surge! has some rub to it, including the main blade. But nothing too bad, and I can fix it if I so choose. On the main blade it is from a slightly loose, bent torx screw, that can be twisted by hand. But when you tighten it so that the blade does not rub, it makes OHO almost impossible. The file also rubs, but I think that the diamond coating or something warped it a tad, and that is why. The saw is fine, so it isn't the blade exchanger.

I'd send that it for repair , it would really bug me .

It really isn't an issue. If you look at it, it's touching the sides, but it definitely is not rubbing. I miss-said that originally. It doesn't inhibit the opening at all, just touches when closed.

And since it is a user, and I mean heavy user >:D, I don't care how she looks as long as she preforms. ;)
