German Bull knives any good??
on: December 08, 2009, 05:19:23 PM
While threads are starting to fly on the quality of knives coming out I happened upon
a brand on ebay ... German Bull.  Made in Germany.  Priced so that I really have to ask
if they are of good quality?  As an example...

Ahm, Sorry mate, but there is no German brand like German Bull. At least, there is no such company I know of. There is no German website referring to "German Bull" as a brand, the brand is never mentioned on German Messerforum and there are no Google results on "German Bull Messer" or other German variations. All I can find are listings on some US stores, but no results on the well respected retailers like Newgraham or Knifecenter...

Sean,

German Bull is a brand owned by Frost Cutlery, just as Hen & Rooster and Buck Creek are. The German Bull knives are indeed made in Germany and do indeed exist. They are produced by the same people who make the H&R's and Buck Creek line. I've handled only a few and the quality is there, I was impressed by their Dirtbuster pattern.

Their overall fit and finish, as well as general build, I put in the quality category of the Buck Creeks. Which is to say good. The German Bull brand has only been around for a few years and their current selection is small but it has slowly been growing. They are one of the least know German brands of current production on the market right now.

Thats fascinating. I know Hen and Rooster knives, I know they are a Frost brand and made in Solingern Germany. And I do not doubt your words 2xTap, but I just asked Messerforum (largest German knife collectors forum) and Google again and can not find any information about German Bull in Germany. Do you know where they produce (Solingen or elsewhere in Germany) and if they have a different brand name here?

Woz,

German Bull is just a brand under the Frost Cutlery banner. I am not sure if they are available over in Germany or not as it is a American owned brand that came about long after the purchase of Bertram Cutlery by Frost. From my understanding they are produced over in Solingen Germany in the same factory that produces the other German lines for Frost Cutlery....that of the H&R's and Buck Creeks.

Woz,

Sounds good......you might find out more detail than what I have been able to garner from Frost Cutlery. They are not always forthcoming with full details of all of their brands.

That´s Bockwurst Ben, a German sausage. Comparable to Wiener.

Ok, my info on German Bull by the Solingen trade office: The brand "Hen and Rooster" is produced by Klaas, Solingen, now. Klaas is known as "Kissing Crane" brand in the US. A small, but well respected manufacturer. German Bull is not a registered brand in Solingen, but based on the fact that Klaas produces for other brands and that Frost does business with them, I guess there is a chance taht they make them too.

Woz,

Thanks for the info. I knew of the Klaas association as they were initially part owners of the Bertram Brand and it's trademarks but did not know if they still had anything to do with Hen & Rooster once Frost got sole control of the brand and it's distribution here Stateside.

Interesting......you learn something new everyday.  :tu:
