There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

Just look at these "BUFFERS" :pok:

My wife gave me a 10/22 for Christmas and I am looking for mods and parts. :D

No this seller understands advertising.

I don't even know what a recoil buffer is, and yet I want one
I used to come here a lot.

I had a great time modding mine. Here is a DIY 1022 link http://www.perfectunion.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=118 Here is a pretty good place to buy parts http://www.prestostore.com/cgi-bin/pro08.pl?ref=armedamerica@comcast.net&ct=63163 cheap gun parts has a 2 1/2 hammer for 36.00. I did my own auto bolt release and extended mag release mods from the perfectunion DIY page. If you want good iron sights Tech Sights makes AR15 style sights for 1022s. http://www.tech-sights.com/ruger3.htm

Looks like a nice .22 for plinking and hunting.

I've been hearing very good things about the SR-556 too:
http://www.gunblast.com/Ruger-SR556.htm

Really, really like its gas operating system with piston and an adjustable gas port.  Similar concept to the Belgian FN FAL, etc. designs.

Ability to adjust the gas operating system to match the ammo and conditions is a great idea.  Reassuring to be able to dial in that MAX setting if you ever encounter issues due to marginal ammo, fouling, or environmental conditions.

Took out the 10-22 yesterday had a blast now I want to mod it.

I knew there are all sorts of sites and forums but I just wanted to ask anyone here
what mods have you done?

What have you done that you wish you didn't?

I am replacing the buffer and modding the bolt so it stays open.

Haven't ever owned or modded a 10/22, but have shot a bazillion rounds through them and LOVE them.

If you don't have the extended mag release for yours, it's one of those mods that seems to be universally liked.

I'd love to see someone put out a stock that was just a big ammo storage area. I'm sure someone somewhere has thought of that already.

I'm not big into the 'making a sensible little rifle into a tacticool monstrosity' that lots of gun folks seem to be into. I'd just put on a decent low-power scope, and improved mag release, and get some good 30-round mags.

I don't have a 10/22, my .22 is a Marlin 880.  A friend has one though, and he bought a kit to make it look kinda sorta like an MG42.  I've seen them for sale online in several places.  I've thought about getting a 10/22 several times, but honestly, they're too new for my taste in firearms.  :)

EDIT:  Here's a pic of what he has.

Too new? They debut in 1964 the same year I did:)
So does that mean I am too new also.

My wife would argue that ;)

I forgot about the extended mag release thanks.

I don't want to bling it out. I want to keep it simple.
New sites, mag release, same wooden stock no new barrel just little changes.

Aside from my Marlin and my Remington 870, all of my rifles are antique military pieces.  My oldest is a US Model 1861 Springfield .58 caliber muzzleloader, dated 1862.  I have a Martini-Henry, a Schmidt Rubin, Lee-Enfields, Mausers, Carcanos, an Arisaka, and so on.  yeah, 1964 is a baby compared to some of the things I collect.  :D

I just got a Houge overmold stock and a Green Mountain bull barrel for mine and with match ammo and a good scope it's an amazing tack driver. Oh how I wish it were legal to hunt turkeys with it because I know I can get 100 yard head shots and I can never get them closer than 75 with a shotgun.

Recoil buffers are nice. Instead of the bolt hitting the steel bolt stop pin, it hits this. Makes things a little quieter too.

As for upgrades. If I were to do it all over again, I'd do the cosmetic stuff dead last if at all. In my opinion, the first thing (in addition to the recoil buffer) is a trigger tune kit - trigger, sear, and hammer. Maybe new firing pin and extractor claw. Next would be to choose a sighting system to suite your particular needs, stock open sights, a Williams Aperture sight, or scope, laser, etc. Then I might add sling mounts. Barrel and stock change after that if you even felt like it, because you just might like the stock barrel and stock.

Then I'd fool around with different kinds of ammunition from the different manufacturers to see how I like them.

Or, you might just leave it alone and use it for awhile until you figure out how you like it. You might find that it's a great little rifle out of the box.

My very humble opinion.

The best thing I ever did to my 10/22 was put in a Hornet Customs Trigger Group.  :tu:
