Fenix TK20 Beam shot comparison
on: January 12, 2010, 11:06:01 PM
I've never been very good at beam shots but this should give you some idea . The TK20 is very bright but has excellent colour .

First up std Mag 3D

next up std Mag 4D

Then a Fenix L0D on high

Now the TK20 on low

and last up TK20 on High

Hope this is of interest

I'm very tempted by the TK20.  I keep wandering over into the Fenix section of Tim's site every time I grab SAKs from him :)

I figure for general outdoor use its throw and colour rendering would be a good bet.

Thanks for doing the pics Dunc :tu:

It does have a very good throw on it . Like I said earlier I gave it a good testing on the beach last night while on a shout and it was hitting the top of the cliffs fine  :D

Well my LD20 has been awol for a few months now  >:(  so its quite tempting.  Day to day I get by with a little single AA Leatherman (LGX-200) but something with a bit more throw wouldn't go amiss.

I know there's some more Solitaires around somewhere - the kids nick them. And that big Tesco Cree thing.

There's loads of the Fauxton type things knocking around too I think

Nice beamshots.

Was thinking of getting a TK20 for outdoor use, but will now wait to see what its replacement, the TK21 is like.

It's been a long time since I moved my 2D-mag over to a LED but I don't remember it being that bad. :o  I'm going to have to see if I kept the bulb and swap it back in, it's always nice to be reminded just how much of a difference modern LED technology has made. :)

I carry incan bulbs in all my 3D MagLED torches for backup.  I swapped one in the other day to compare, and it was unimpressive.  The incans throw pretty well, but the overall output is rather lame.

it took me a little while to remember that's was I had done as well. :-[  Now it could be that the batteries were a bit flat but the light was really bad, I'd have to get some fresh ones to be totally fair.  Most of all though I'd forgotten just how uneven the spot is.  I'll be sticking to the LED I think. :)

Hey Mag, 1979 called and they want their torches back :P

I still have a 5D and a 6D but both have been converted.  They were both getting on a bit and changing the somewhat marked plastic lenses for UCL ones made quite a pleasant difference as well.
