This one-piece tool that ratslash7 made looks interesting enough to deserve it's own thread......

I think you need one of these:

But then I have a good reason for thinking that.

I'm looking forward to hearing your impressions on the SOG.

I've been calling it the Rat Tool. The name seemed to fit it's bare-boned survivor attitude. Plus it works with my alias. Thanks for the compliment.

Ahh yes, I remember now. So did the 0-1 steel work out, or did you try some grade of stainless steel?

Thanks J for the plug. Here's the specifics.

This tool has 10 features:

-Pry Bar
-Knife
-Bottle Opener
-Phillips Screwdriver
-Flat Screwdriver
-Nail Puller /wire Stripper Notch
-1 1/4" Measuring Scale in 1/16" Increments
-Teardrop Type Hex Nut Driver
-1/4" Hex Bit Driver and Extra Driver Just For Leatherman Type Bits
-Twine/ Seat Belt Cutter

This tool is made of O-1 tool steel Hardened to 56-58RC and weighs around 2oz. Measurements are 3/16" X 1 1/2" X 4 1/4". The "straw " color of this tool comes from the tempering. It is not coated or treated in any way. This tool is light and capable.

This is the forerunner of what I hope will be the production model. The O-1 is working out fine although I may make the next ones out of A-2. I've been thinking about selling this one to help fund the purchase of some more steel.

Awesome dude!  8)

So how did you make it? I see evidence of milling machine work, but what about some of those little cutout areas?

WaterJet, well, actually Abrasive Jet CNC Machine which also etched the 1 1/4" scale so it's dead nuts. There was a lot of file hone work too. Glad you like it.

Ahh yes, I suspected waterjet. Those little serrations along the inside wrench cutout would have been difficult (if not impossible) any other way.

Well, I could have filed them but if you have access to a waterjet...

...which I don't.  :(   My birthday is coming up soon though, perhaps I should drop a subtle hint to my wife? How much do you suppose a new waterjet machine costs?  ;)

Hardy-har-har!  :P :D

It looks like the Rat Tool can do a bunch of different things. It also looks like it would fit nicely in a clenched fist...and it looks like it would leave a nasty mark on a bad guy if he were hit with one.

There is a self defense side to the old Rat that I didn't want to be a big selling point but once you play with one you'll almost think that it's its primary function. I still mostly use it to cut, screw or otherwise convince things to do what they may be reluctant to do... Y'know nice stuff.

Last I heard they started at about the cost of a house and went up sharply from there...  I'd recommend getting the house instead so that you have some place to go when the wife kicks you out...

I'm looking at the Rat Tool's phillips screwdriver, and wondering if it would fit properly into a Leatherman Removable Bit Driver tool?

Link = http://multitool.org/content/view/48/67/

The entire bit kit wouldn't take up much space in your pocket, and it would allow the Rat Tool to be used on a bunch of different fasteners.

Hi all!

I like the look of that Rat Tool.  What kind of sheath will it come with?  Will the sheath cover the whole tool?

Yeah, it will probably fit the LM driver but it already has a 1/4" driver. Should be able to drive any bit at your local Ace Hardware Store.

What do I need to add?
