Romisen RC A4 with Pics
on: February 12, 2010, 07:16:34 PM
After a recommendation from someone on MTO I went ahead and got one of these Romisen RC A4 flashlights.

I got it from bestofferbuy.com for the grand total of £9-44 with free shipping :D

Here are some specs:

  • Brand:   Romisen
  • Model:   RC-A4
  • Emitter Brand/Type:   Cree
  • Emitter BIN:   Q3-WC
  • Color BIN:   White
  • Total Emitters:   1
  • Battery Configurations:   1 x CR123A rechargeable Ii-on battery
  • Voltage Input:   1.3~4.0V, 4.0V max
  • Switch Type:   Clicky
  • Switch Location:   Tailcap
  • Modes:   3
  • Mode Arrangement:   Hi > Mid > Strobe
  • Circuitry:   Digital Regulated 700mA Current Output
  • Brightness:   150 lumens maximum brightness (manufactuer rated)
  • Runtime:   35 minutes  (manufactuer rated)
  • Lens:   Coated Glass Lens
  • Reflector:   Aluminum Textured/OP Reflector
  • Carrying Clip:   Clip Included

This is my first cree LED light and I am very impressed :tu: The OP reflector is the dog's wotsits :D While I understand you lose on the throw a nice smooth beam is pleasing to the eye.
The light is really bright; I don't know if it is the 150 lumens advertised but I do know it is BRIGHT! The following measurements were posted on DX:
Quote
Power measurements taken at the tail:
High 750mA
Med 690-710mA
Strobe 250-300mA
As you can see, the medium mode is only slightly lower than high, which kind of defeats the purpose. I wish medium was more in the 250-300mA range.

The difference from the High and the Medium is barely noticeable but I imagine most keep theirs on high. I would have preferred a lower bracket if only for the battery's sake. The strobe light is a new feature to me. So far I like it  :D I can see its applications in emergencies, search & rescue, etc. It is advertised as an SOS light; from what I read this flashes SOS in morse code. This is a strobe light not SOS  ::)

It has a useful clip on the side of the flashlight with a hole for a lanyard but it is really tight. I guess this is good and will loosen over time.

I am currently using an Energizer Lithium CR123A 3v battery; now do I buy similiar in bulk online or invest in rechargeables?

Somehow while browsing on ebay the other night I bid on this and now have it on it's way  :D Think it's a Saik SA-8 200 Lumens Q4 CREE Led Flashlight with 3 modes; got it for £7-50  :ahhh

With my new TTi :D

cerbera you'll often find with HK based ebayers they can sell for £6.50 postage + £1 and still make a handsome profit, point being the price is mainly in the postage  ;) and that light in Hong Kong would be around £1 or less to buy  :tu:

This is true John, I was under no illusion that I had scooped the ebay bargain of the year but felt for £7 it's a mighty good deal. If the Romisen is anything to go by :D

That's why I asked about the LED drop in :D

Took exactly 2 weeks; I ordered it on a Thursday and it landed 2 weeks later :D Not as good as John's though  :(

I agree John; the delay seems to be the actual getting the product out of the building. Once 'in the post' it'll move swiftly :D

And another from china LOL tracked again NOW! think of my horror when it showed out for delivery "I was in all day" I thought great it'll be here today NO! when I checked at 6pm it showed tried to deliver  :ahhh at this point" bare in mind my last story" I was having BIG CATS! LOL

I made several phone calls to the depot and finally after weeks it turned up all labels had been ripped off   so how did the driver know where I lived  :D I'll tell you HOW! I knew someone at the time that worked there  ;)  :twak:  :D

Everything I have read about Romisen is that they are excellent quality budget lights! Might check them out sometime if they have a twisty.
