Stepping up to the plate
on: February 14, 2010, 06:40:56 PM
I help run a tool site and don't always carry a good tool, I am going the extra mile and wearing one everyday. I normally have something in my lunch box for times at work when I need something and on my person it's usually something small. Since I spend most of my time at work, I often have a box cutter on my side and a phone on the other, which limits real estate space for a tool (just too much weight). So to remedy this problem I have opted for the box cutter to go without it's holster and for it to just go loose in pocket and carry a tool on my side instead. I often need a tool and not have one but have not truly ever given over to an EDC tool since 10 years ago. Today I am carrying my Pulse and we will see how that goes, it rides low enough to be a bother and offers good utility for it's size. I am thinking about carrying my spirit too but I will let the Pulse ride for a few days to see how it works. I carry fancy knife blades and don't use them much, I really don't need anything beyond 420HC type steel. Guess all I need to do is make an effort, well here goes....

You should always carry a good tool- it gives you the opportunity to strike up a conversation with any paramedics that may be walking by with a Leatherman on her belt!  :D

As it happens I'm carrying a Pulse as well, as you say it's got a load of great tools for it's size.  Best of luck with the experiment. :tu:

I love the fact the pulse is so small and yet so versatile. I only have two more tools I want to get to rekindle my childhood (yea right) and that is an original (my first leatherman) and a Kershaw A100, I know I am asking alot huh. BTW tool carry for today worked out good, for some reason I am using the blade and scissors more than anything else on it so far.  ::)

I think you made a good choice with the Pulse David. I wear dress pants to work every day and carry the Pulse most of the time. Good light weight tool with decent all around impliments.

You really should Chris, it beats the newer Kick, Fuse and Blast hands down IMO.  While the roller locks do take a bit of getting used to/breaking in, I now find them really simple and natural to use. :)

Don't listen Chris, those locks are the work of Satan.  >:D  Think about it, if they were that great why put them on only 2 tools.  ;)
