Been done to death has it not?

I won't be voting for any as "The best" is simply not enough info.  Each brand has it's own merits and I don't limit myself to any brands for that very reason.

I'll play.

I've played with a Swiss Tool and it's nice but the OHO blades and superior steel of my Charge TTI make it better in my opinion. Vic's are better than a lot of Leathermans but not better than mine...

... for me...

...Today...

...but I'm kind of odd.

I feel like I should add YMMV but Yud asked...opinion given. (ducks to avoid thrown tomatoes and bullets)

Clearly Gerbers are superior to all the above brands in every situation for everyone.  Only a total idjut would disagree *

* Unless you need to bruise your knuckles a lot and then even I'll concede that on occasion SOGs have their place ;)

Rusty Leathermans, slippery drivers on Vic, SOG's are outdated, Wenger is Vic gone backwards, Gerbers all suck because Leathermans blow.  >:D :D

There ...i think i've offended everyone and their tools.

Now to be serious...i like them all ...each for different reasons.
Gerbers were my first multi...the 400 and 600 i hold in high regard.
Leathermans are my current favs...gotta love the wave.
Vics are slick with quality
SOGs are a working mans tool
Wengers make fine tools too

I have to say that ive only ever had LM's so i generally stick with them, but then not to say the others are not good, the little gerber clutch i got recently is very well made and usefull , but i prefere more of a classic look, this is another reason the st300 appeals to me as has a old style look, but each to there own,

wonder why you can't pick up a spirit or swisstool at Walmart or Academy? Seems like they would sell the H out of them in these locations. Leatherman and Gerber galore there.

Based on build quality , implement quality , and F/F; I would say Victorinox . If you add ergonomics to the mix it has to be the Spirit .

If you add ergonomics to the mix, it has to be Leatherman. OHO baby!. Wait a minute. If it's ergo's that tip the scales, Buck's X-Tract tools must be the winner. All tools OHO. (man, I gotta get me an X-Tract Fin).

But I define "the best" as being the best for a specific task.  Without a task, I can't really see how anyone can answer such a question.  If I need a tool with a bit driver, then LM's are probably the best.  If I need as much function in a high quality package then Vic's are probably the best.  If I need every tool to be OH then Buck's would be the best.  If I needed speedy OH pliers then Gerber's would probably be the best.... and so on and so on.

I'm back!!

I voted for the Spirit. It isn't that i don't like the other tools i do. I just my Spirit more than the others. I think a better question would be if you could only have one multi tool witch one would it be.

I voted Leatherman! Their the best for me. I`ve got many tools from all the listed makers but I like, carry and use Leathermans more than the others.

I really do wonder if any of you have even tried the multis available at my local 99p store.   ::)

:pok: How many of your multis have blades so flexible you can bend them into spoon makers ??

I thought not, plus they rock when you need emergency ballast :tu:

I got to be honest with you guys, I voted SOG.

A couple of minutes ago I was sitting with a Powerlock, SURGE! and a Swisstool in my lap. Going through the motions and checking out the implements. The Swisstool ROCKS when it comes to quality, far better than LM and SOG in my humbled opinion. LM is pushing the innovation of the tools all the time and SOG is the MT for modification and plier strength. But the Powerlock just feels right in my hand, same for the PPP Deluxe. Sure they don’t have outside opening tools (I really hope that the next tool will be that), got clumsy tool covers so your hands won’t hurt when clamping down on the pliers and gears that make it a pain do use the drivers. But it’s SOG, it’s MY SOG, and they feel just right in my hands.

Except when I use the drivers.

So the best tool is one that you wish had outside opening tools but doesn't, that has clumsy handle covers and is no good for when using the drivers.
