different swiss champ magnifiers?

I have seen a couple different swiss champs with different magnifiers.  some have a gray plastic outside, and others have a stainless outside, and some are just all clear plastic. Can someone give me info on this? my local hardware store has the one with the gray outside and i was wondering if one was better than the others.

These are the Vic Magnifiers.

The ones with stainless steel outside are on fake SAKs, and usually the knives are REALLY bad.

if i bought the one with the gray outside, would the overall tool be any different or really old ( its new in the box anyways)

Generally it would be no different, but all the tools on the SAK evolve so it may not have the laters revisions.  Generally it is no big deal any many prefer the grey encased magnifier.  If you like the knife, and the price is good, go for it.

I used to edc a Swisschamp, many many years ago, and it had the OLD magnifier glass.
Nowadays I edc an Explorer Plus, with the NEW magnifier.
Would you believe me if I told you I can't really tell the difference?

All I can say is that the newer one is quite wider, that is true.

Unless you're looking for a specific version (maybe you're a collector, I don't know that), whatever you pick you're doing the right thing.

The ones with the grey magnifier are becoming hard to find new in box and we are already beginning to see the price of those climb.  Go grab

Agreed! I personally don't like the new style magnifiers, I find they scratch too easily. Or maybe its I scratch them too easy  either way I have 2 of the old style, one on my Swisschamp, another on an Explorer. I HAD to get the old style mag on the Swisschamp after I found my new style magnifier all sctrached up on the one I was tooling about with.
