Victorinox watch help needed
on: February 19, 2010, 07:52:54 PM
A mate of mine just gave me a second hand vic watch for a favour I done him . It was a bit grubby and needed a clean up . The back wasn't very tight so I took that off and checked to see if any dirt was inside . It was clean but the "O" was dry so I put a tiny bit of silicone grease on it ( was this the right thing to do ) .Now my question is the battery didnt look like it was held in very securely , is there a bit missing or is this normal .btw watch works ok .

Yes, a little silicone grease on the o-ring was the correct thing to do. It's hard to tell from the pictures if there was some kind of battery retaining type strap or not. Some watches do, some don't. One thing to test is simply to shake the watch. Do you hear any rattling, or any noise that would indicate the battery is moving? If not, you're probably good to go. Also, if there are watch shops in your area, look for that model and ask them to open it up and look.

Common sense ..... so rare, it's virtually a super power.

i would say something is missing as most all ive had have got some sort of plate that holds the battery in place, also that hole near the battery looks suspicious like there should be a plate there, ive lots of bits mate and very small screws, 2 things send it to me and ill sort it out , or ill send some parts,  :tu:

Actually, a lot of watches use the same movements so you don't even have to find the same model of watch
just have the jeweler look up the movement number then you can tell if it is missing a strap.

IMHO I don't think you are missing anything but then again I am not a watch maker. ::)

the only problem there is most wont open the case backs as it effect's the water resistance, but cant hurt and ask or take it in and they might no,  :tu:
