A surprise watch graced my door today.
on: March 16, 2010, 03:38:16 PM
I am a bit puzzled over this one. I just received a watch through the door. Apparently I won it off of eBay I would imagine, as its one of the few places I shop online. However, I don’t remember buying it. Now I do remember looking at them a while back. When I checked on eBay, it only lists the past 60 wins. I believe I was looking at these just before I got into those ABC watches…so mayhap it was a late arrival and I just lost track of it. That has never happened before, but I guess there is a first for everything.

Anyways, it is a very nice watch, and it shows that I only spent 20 dollars for it, so I didn’t go wrong I guess (that is what the bill stated…but no date…argh).

I hate when you order things off of ebay and don’t know/remember about it lol. So this package was a um…er…pleasant surprise.

It looks so darn pretty! $20? I'll take it off your hands for twice that price, Chako!

It is a beauty. I will have to decline. What worries me is that I don't remember buying it. Might be the first signs telling me to slow down on eBay.   :D

Congratulations on what very likely might be a fake.  I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but the logo doesn't look right, and the fact that it says "By Chrono" instead of By Wenger or Victorinox (although this is clearly a knockoff of a Wenger), I do believe you have a made in Japan or China Swiss Watch.

There was another company using the Swiss Military name some time ago, and had a logo very similar to Wenger's, only it was a white Swiss Cross in a red octagon instead of a square.  I haven't heard anything from them in a few years, but they used to be available at some of the discount watch kiosks you'd see the mall.

Still, for $20, if it keeps decent time, it's probably worth at least what you paid for it!

I know it isn't a Wenger or a Victorinox.

I did a bit of looking and this is what I came up with...

http://www.chronowatch.ch/

And some more photographs.

I have never heard of them. I did take a look at their online catalog, and some of their watches do indeed have that Swiss logo. This watch dates back a few years, so their closest looking current model is the Spirit under the Quartz movement section. Is it a fake? I haven't a clue. What I do know is that it is a nice looking watch. What worries me more is that I don't remember getting it in the first place.  :ahhh  :D

looks like http://www.chronowatch.ch/english/private-label-watch-Quartz_Watches-38-1/private_label_watches-Sportsteel-Chrono.html

but the outer frame is slightly different, and the strap... but the internal bits look identical.

I still think it's a nice watch for $20, even if you don't remember buying it.

I have found the watch on their site under the e-catalog as the Spirit model with stainless steel bracelet. The only thing different is some of the small writing such as Swiss Military. I take it Chrono makes watches for private labels, in other words, the buyer can have whatever inscribed on the face and back of the watch in large enough quantities.

I am thinking this is not a fake. Appears to be Swiss Made...and for 20 bucks, I am ecstatic even though I don't remember buying it lol.

Chako if you paid for the watch via Paypal , you can go into your Paypal account & track the details down , may be look for things you bought that cost around what you paid for the watch(cost + postage fees)

If you're wondering, you could always pop the back off and examine the movement.  Cases are easy to fake, movements CAN be faked but it's a lot tougher to do so.  A quick look with a magnifying glass and you should be able to look up the movement number online (ETA and Ronda are the only makers of Swiss quartz chronograph movements).

eBay changed the time frame, from 3 months to 1 month, that you could see items bought and sold in order to reduce the ability for Data Mining being done on the website.

If you click the "advanced search" button and then click the "by bidder" button you can get the last 30 days worth of bids placed by yourself or any other member. I use it frequently to find those sellers that have items I want and I have missed when doing a search.

BTW, use the "by bidder" search function for everything when you are trying to find someone and you will skip all those pesky confirmation codes you have to type in. Also it does not limit you to only some many searches per day that I know of.

Well I'm sorry if I can't relate with your problem, but I very much doubt too many people have shared it! Don't you get all sarcastic on me, child! ::) :P
