Along with a Gerber Octane, Leatherman PST, and a Wenger Esquire that were posted elsewhere, I managed to get a few more items in today.

First off, I got the MTO Shards in! :D

These look and feel a lot nicer then the photos can convey. I am not a one piece tool convert, but these darn near made me re-evaluate my faith.

I also got one of these Tool Logic rescue tools. I was curious.

It is not a bad little tool to have in the vehicle for emergencies.

I also picked up some items for a good cause.

Now for something really interesting…or what I think is interesting. I was at the local gun shop inquiring about the Leatherman MUT (Yes, they have all 3 listed when they hit the shelves). The Owner’s daughter knows my penchant for multi tools, and informed me she has something I might be interested in. She comes out with one package and hands it over. As she is doing that, she also informs me there is another but they would have to dig it out.  I walked out with both. I am a true MTO member. :D

Both are AVID Design tools, one for the gun, and the other for the Turkey hunter. This is the first time I saw these, and I was a bit impressed. Here is their web site.

http://aviddesignco.com/avid-turkey-tool.html

The Turkey Tool is on the left, and the Gun Tool is on the right.

The Gun Tool does not come with a sheath.

That top black part is a hatch. Open it to access 4 bits that are held in there with a magnet.

The Gun Tool does not have a built in pair of pliers.

It does however have plenty of weapon centric tools.

Taken from their web site:
420 SS Claw-point blade
• Gun Pin Punch
• Choke Wrench: 10 ga; 12 ga; 16 ga; 20 ga; 28 ga; .410
• Scope windage/elevation blade
• Torx drive: T20; T15; T10
• Allen Hex drive: 3/32"; 5/32"
• Magnetic 3/16" driver
• screwdrivers: 1/8" flat; 3/16" flat; Phillips 1&2
• Magnetic bit storage block with access door
• 420 Stainless steel frame with Rubber grip-coated polymer jackets

Here is the bit driver.

Now I thought that was interesting. But you haven’t seen anything yet. I think the Turkey Tool is one cool piece of weird. I am speaking from a person who has several Bird centric MTs in his collection. This one takes the cake though.

The Turkey Tool does come with a sheath. The sheath and tool are camoed, thereby making it look nicer then the bland Gun Tool.

The sheath is very odd, in that it opens right up. There is a snare inside where you can carry your bird on your belt. The inside is an orange so you don’t get shot…hopefully. The sheath is held together with Velcro. Just weird. I am sure MultiMat will want one once he reads what AVID Design calls this feature. :D

Here, you see the sheath opened up showing the head noose with slip knot and the orange insides.

The Turkey Tool is a looker if you are into camo.

One of the strangest things I have ever seen in an MT is this.

Yes, that is a folding one foot ruler for measuring beards and other things when you’re drunk outdoors…providing your sober enough to use it.

Taken from their web site.
• Brush/game saw
• Drop point knife
• Gun pin punch
• Carry hook
• Tom toter sheath
• SS, aluminum, rubber grip frame
• 12” Beard/spur ruler, 1/8” increments
• 10 ga.- .410 choke tool; Scope windage/elevation tool

And an inside look of all the tools folded away.

And one final compare of both tools.

Whew... :waving:

Well after seeing some of the videos, I now know how to use the sheath on the Turkey Tool. You open the sheath, place the Turkey's feet into the noose, use the hook on the metal D ring and carry it over your shoulder. Rather ingenious.

Plier based would be nice...but it doesn't matter to me so long as it has multiple functions in once device.

How sturdy is the ruler?

I can see some survival-type using that bright orange sheath as a signaling device :)
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!

The ruler is about as sturdy as one of its type can be. There is no play in the joints, and once you rotated a piece, it stays there. Now, with time and wear, all bets are off.
