Looks great! The pliar jaws look shaped well for electrical work, more like linesmans than needlenose. And those replacable cutters could be helpful if he ever cuts the wrong wire!  :D

That's a great model Gerber; I especially like the blade shape (almost like a talon).

Cool engraving also!

Sweet!

Maybe I should have gone into electrical work!  Is it too late you have you adopt me too? :P

I am sure he will treasure that tool for a very very long time, such sentimental gifts are worth so much more than the money that is paid for them or their market value.

For those among us (me for example) who lack an encyclopedic knowledge of all the different multitool models by all the different manufacturers - what model Gerber is that?

MP600 ...there are a bunch of variations on that model...needle nose, blunt nose, replaceable saw, carbide cutters, etc...they were all based on the same frame though.

Thanks, Corrugated.

Is the model with blunt nose pliers still in production?

Thanks, J-sews.

Don't believe that I've ever seen that blunt nose 600 model in the stores or on the websites that I frequent.

Waaaay back when the first Gerber Multi-Plier came out, it had a blunt nose profile too. The blades were not locking of course, the handles pinched the palm of your hands, and there were no hi-tech carbide wire cutters. There have been quite a number of evolutionary steps along the way to the current version that Hawkchucker has pictured above. (I like the way Gerber has methodically improved the design over the years, instead of throwing it out each time and repeatedly starting over.)

Anyhow, yah, that blunt nose profile is unique. It works better for some folks than the needlenose version.

I carried that particular model for a few years before getting a super tool...I really liked it, but it was getting worn out...the blunt nose pliers worked really well and the wire cutters were great..but the screwdrivers and bottle opener left a little to be desired...I kept it in my toolbox up until recently when I gave it to my dad to keep in his tackle box for when we go fishing...(so he wouldn't keep asking to borrow my leatherman! ;D).

Hehe...nothing wrong with a little "gift-giving with an ulterior motive." Happens to me all the time. For my last birthday my wife got me a new set of paint brushes!  :P
