Yeah, they are pretty cool doodads!  Each of the main tools is one handed opening too.

Thast's actually the reason I bought one. It has a friggin' windshield saw.

I, of course, have no calling for such a tool in my day to day life but I'm prone to gadgets so I tossed it in my EDC bag and the peripheral tools have come in handy a few times.

I like it because it's easy to find if dropped or put down, day or night, winter or summer.

I doubt you could lose that thing if you dropped it in a flaming cow truck.

It seems to me that in the UK it is ok to carry things like this provided you have a lawful purpose for it.  In that case, since this is obviously designed for rescue and isn't all that imposing, wouldn't it be easy enough to claim it as an emergency device?  Perhaps if you could get your hands on a non-OH opening version, that might also help?  Following the tube station attack two years ago, it stands to reason that folks would want to be prepared at all times.

The Rescue Tool isn't nearly as intimidating as a Spyderco or Benchmade and a Bobby would have a hell of a time making a charge of possession of an illegal weapon stick when the device in question has a glass saw and bright red RESCUE written on glow in the dark scales.

The only problem is that by making non locking, or not able to be opened by one hand, its detracting from the benefits of this tool being a 'rescue tool'

You have a point there as well.

In Canada there are no restrictions on blade length or locking mechanisms, and mostly the law revolves around what the knife is used for.  A fully serrated assisted opening tactical folder with a blood groove is legal provided you don't threaten anyone with it.  Use the tiny blade on an Opinel #2,  Victorinox Classic or Leatherman Micra to threaten or hurt someone and you will be charged with use of a weapon.  In fact, anything used to deliberately threaten or injure someone is considered a weapon.  Stuffing Beanie Babies in someone's mouth to suffocate them turns them into weapons in the eyes of the law.

While I don't agree with our government on most things, I can certainly give them credit for maintaining what is a sensible and effective law.  I wish more places had that kind of mentality.

the problem is you average bobby isn,t sure what the law regarding knives is, so they can and do search people all the time, especially if you happen to look like a bit of a thug like i unfortunatly do ;) ;D

so you could face an afternoon down the police station until someone who knows the law says you free to go, so to my mind its just not worth the hassel carrying something thats not 100% street legal.

as for the tube station attrocity, the railways reserve the right to deny you access to there trains if you have ANY kind of knife!, i had an argument a few weeks back with one of the guards because i had my swisstool on my belt (not strictly speaking legal edc as the tools lock ::)) but as i had my folding bike with me as well i convinced him it was an essential cycling tool, now if i,d have got stroppy with the guard or was a few years younger, i,d have had a long ride home

with an oht or rescue tool your leavig youself open to grief from those in authority, I hate it i really truely do hate it but then i hate this country to for what its turning into, but what can you do?

It always confused me how a terrorist plot managed to turn into a celebrated holiday?  Are people celebrating the successful thwarting of the attempt to blow up a government building, or are they merely laughing that someone was brave enough to try and put the government in it's place?

I'm a little more familiar with Guy Fawkes than the average person, but I'd really like to spend some more time learning about him, his plot, how they caught him and so on- moreso than is available from V for Vendetta!

Of course, in the movie, I always found it interesting that it was a guy who used little more than a few knives and some terrorist tactics to free a repressed country.  Interesting concept in today's anti-terrorist, anti- knife world huh?

why do think there trying to ban knives, those in authority fear us ;D

as far as guy faulks is concerned i think most of us brits are impressed with the fact that those guys had balls enough to turn against a truely tyranical goverment :)

there a lot of parallels with che guevara if you ask me the both took on the impossible and they both failed, but years after there deaths there still lauded as heroes! (everyone love the underdog)

It's a pretty interesting story.  I also would like to know more about how they caught him.  From what I've read, one of his co-conspirators sent a letter warning the King... but there are a lot of questions surrounding the letter.  It supposedly was too vague and didn't disclose a location, yet the authorities new exactly where to go...  Some of the stuff I've read says that the King knew about the plot from the beginning, and let it get as far as it did so he could crush it at the last minute to hopefully help push his agenda...

Hmm... sounds familiar... anyone hear anything lately about stopping terrorist plots?

Che Guevara was a murderous thug, comparable to Heinrich Himmler or Reinhard Heydrich in Germany, and Lavrenti Beria in Russia.  Why any sane person would admire such men is beyond me.
