Gettin' one o' dem Gerbers
on: March 25, 2010, 12:01:02 AM
I need some solid opinions on selecting a nice gerber.

Right now I am looking at the Diesel, Freehand, and Flik.  But of course I am open to suggestion.

I like their OHO pliers, so I'm gonna steer clear of the butterfly Gerbers.

 :)

Out of the 3 listed I'd pick the Diesel every time :)

Here's what I thought of mine...

just read your review, very informative
I flip my powerlock open and closed all the time just cuz its fun, so I am sure the Gerber pliers are just as exciting :)

I use pliers all the time, but not nearly as much as the blade.  So what makes my decision hard is that I like the selection of tools on the diesel, but I have to open the pliers then find the blade.  That's why I like the flik and freehand, but the trade off is the not-as-extensive tool selection

 From another thread.

All you jerks are making me want a Gerber!
I was looking at the 600, I like the blunt nose but there's no saw nor scissors.
Which led me to the Diesel, IT HAS BOTH.

What does you guys think?

If you really want a  bluntnose with scissors  & saw it  is possible. You just need to ask the right guy :pok: :pok: 8)

I like the 600 series.  It feels really good/smooth using the pliers and it's light, although the tradeoff is the inner tools are kind of lacking.  They are functional of course, but kind of outdated.

The 600 series also has one of the few true blunt nose plier designs.

Is it just me or do freehand pliers look indestructable?

Anyone ever bust them?

They'd certainly take some busting Kmarr. They are pretty meaty ( although the Supertool 300's are thicker and therefore presumably stronger nowadays).
I used to come here a lot.

I lean toward the MP 600 Pro Scout if you want a saw.  I've not played with a Diesel though.

My guess would be that it is very overpriced (IMO anyway). It's a good tool, but IIRC, priced at about the level of the Charge TTi.

It is an excellent tool though.
