Tighten the pivot right down.  You'll only get grief if they can be opened with inertia alone.

You sure about that John   I didn't think they could without a customs label and obviously those wouldn't have one.

Ben yes! I'm sure packages coming from the EU in my name have been opened and items dumped in the classic bag, your item was damaged on entry to the UK, they do gather intelligence especially when knives are concerned,I know for fact items from the EU are not exempt from scrutiny either  ;)

4.1 Are there customs controls on goods from the EU?
We carry out selective checks to ensure that no prohibited goods such as drugs, indecent or obscene material, weapons etc., are received in the UK from other EU countries. We also carry out routine controls for revenue purposes. However, because goods from the ‘Special Territories’, that is, countries who are not included in the fiscal territory of the EU (see paragraph 4.3), are subject to excise duty and import VAT, they are processed in the same way as goods imported from outside
the EU.

I'd imagine that if they had looked, they would have marked it as such.  I fail to see what they would have had to lose if that quote you gave is accurate.  All this sneaking sounds a bit too Starsky and Hutch to me TBH.

Normally they stamp it customs cleared on the original package I'm not saying there's cloak and dagger stuff going on but it does make one wonder  :D

[edit] sorry I forgot, yes the quote I gave is accurate it's straight of their website  ;)
