Depends on condition of the knife. If it's clearly worn, it's gonna get used. I've been able to rehab a coupla butane lighters. Most of the time, if nothing has broken in it, it's a matter of cleaning the jet. They're pretty simple really. Just a pressurized container, jet and ignition source. Not that much to go wrong, if nothing is broken off.
I make a point of not testing them (see ninjaz post) As they were all for collection rather than use it made sense to keep them in that Schrödinger state
How much are they worth (approximately)? I mean do they have the same cache as a scientist, or a Mauser, or perfect condition 1961 red soldier? I've seen a few on ebay and never taken much notice.

They should be easier to get in Germany as they were available there but not in the US. on ebay.com you're looking at $100 plus....I'll keep a look out for others on the forum (23euros last week), they don't really interest me. Though I work as a waiter in a beergarden, and am always being asked if I have a light, many of my customers are swiss, it might be impressive if I pull out a crazy swiss flame to light their cigarette...though less impressive if it malfunctions and sets their heads on fire

...where do you get these cool smileys from? as much as I appreciate swiss craftsmanship, the swiss german accents are difficult, a simple german 'danke' (thankyou) becomes 'dan chhhhsscchh (gurgling noises) e'.
