What's next for LM?
on: June 14, 2010, 08:30:57 PM
Hi guys
I've just been poking around a bit and just read Mr. Whippy's review of the Surge v Charge v Wave post.  And I got to thinking, "What's next for LM?"
Or what do you all think should be next for LM?  Honestly I don't see the Wave or the Charge going away anytime soon.  We've seen the exchangeable saw/file for the surge, the replaceable plier heads for the ST 300...is LM's next step to take a page from SOG and offer customization of their tools?  I think that would be pretty cool.  :)  The sky's the limit...what do you think LM should do next?

I think a re-fresh of the Juice line would be appropriate - there haven't been any new models there in what, 5-6 years?  More?

I agree. Something along the lines of the KF4 but with scissors

Ah, well yeah...that's obvious.  LOL!  I'd like to see a revamp of the Juice line.  I'd like to see either a bit driver or some slightly longer drivers in a Juice.  I'd love it if they started releasing the KF4 but one with scissors would be cool too.  What do you all think should (or would like to see) in the Kick, Blast, Fuse line?  Would a smaller medium duty tool similar to the ST 300 be desirable at all?  I'd like to see it.

Actually I would like to see a Juice model similar to the CS4 but instead of the corkscrew replace it with a diamond file. That for me would be the ideal Juice.

With a pocket clip and one hand opening blade of course.

I would like to see Pulse with updated locks and newer style plier head and a removable pocket clip :D Of course they would have to keep that wonderful diamond file in there as well (of course that should go without saying :D )

Nice start... would like to see the bit driver instead of the zillion flatheads, perhaps move the awl inside the handles.

My perfect would be...
Kf4, scissors instead of saw, bit driver and awl on the inside of instead of the screwdrivers.

My first guess would be a Skeletool in every pot!  Er...I mean that design philosophy taken across all sizes.  We have tiny with the Style CS, huge with the MUT, and small-ish with the Skeletool itself.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a Wave-sized Skele show up eventually.

Or, you know...EOD Skeletool  :P

I know people love 'em, but I really really hope they don't replace their other designs with the skeletool design...I really don't like it.  I know I should be open minded and blah blah blah :D but I'm just partial to the more "classic" LM look.  And if they decide to revamp the KF4, I hope they don't get rid of the saw...that would be criminal! That's the best part of that tool, IMO.  If I had to give up anything on the KF4 it would be the serrated blade.  I love that blade, but I could give it up for scissors.  :)

I think a smaller St300 made as the PST 3 would be perfect.  Classic look, full circle of innovation back to perfecting its roots. More work on the bitdriver...make accessories for it besides bits.

A charge with outside opening scissors.  Bit drivers on juices, and on classics.  Dont just limit the bit driver to the wave and charge lines.  the blast came close and got the eyeglass, but I think the PST 3 with a bit driver would be sweet!

Well looking at the current line up next would be an update in the mid size range, a la a PST III, and a rehash of the Juice line, considering it was first rolled out in 2001! and no major updates since.

Well, I certainly have no need for the firearm-related implements (e.g. bolt override tool, disassembly punch, carbon scraper, cleaning rod/brush adapters). On the other hand, I wouldn't mind a diamond file, scissors, ruler, and can opener. :)

I got to play with a MUT at their store, here in Portland, last week.  It is pretty damn sharp looking! Made me want to buy a gun! lol

I'd like to see a Leatherman equivalent of the Vic Autotool. That would be quite cool.

I would like to see a Skeletool/MUT fusion.   I want that hammer, bit driver, locking blade, pliers, file and saw.  (or leave off the saw if it gets much thicker than the Skeletool.

I would like to see Juice line with better pliers head and better/longer drivers.  Oh, and fix the can opener and awl.

That with one outside opening OH blade would be perfect! It might look finny but it sure would be handy :)

I think the Juice line is getting pretty old... it has been almost a decade since the release!

The improvement of the Squirt line is something, that they should do to the Juices, too. Torx screws instead of rivets for better tuning and a finer tool selection (see KF4 debate etc.)

I would also like to see a more developed version of the Skeletool with at least one more outside tool (e.g. a MUT-like saw) and a redesign with a longer blade (2.6 inches for a 4-inch MT is quite short!) and scissors!

But I think the best thing Leatherman could introduce is a Leatherman Custom model where you could decide what you gonna carry on your MT. Kind of like the idea of the Surge, only taken to the next level. A Leatherman chassis would come together with different easy-to-clip-on tool parts, so would be able to select your most used four outside tools and than some inside ones, too. It shouldn't be as complicated as taking a Charge apart (see nutnfancy...) but still solid enough for the tool to last.

I really think the Juice line needs a facelift and a customizeable (is that even a word?) full sized MT would be awesome.  I would love to see a PST III.  I just really want the phillips driver from a Pulse and the file from a Pulse on an MT, possibly with a bit driver as well.

OK so Leatherman were the first to do a fold away set of vice grips (the Crunch) has anyone managed to do a fold away adjustable spanner?  That would be pretty cool.

Exactly.  I carry a Blast, but if a Blast sized ST300 type tool came out, I would carry that in a heartbeat.
