This is what happens when you go all gloomy/bored/whatever, and are out on the road, away from parental control...

I got off work early today (guess I'm just too damned efficient

), and not wanting to start another project, I decided to take a little trip. To the local Gander Mountain... I was actually in the mood to pick up one of the little Wenger SI's they had. However...
To make a long story short, by the time I was done, I was standing at the front counter with:
Leatherman e33B
Gerber Aluminum Presto 2.5
Gerber Trendy
Kershaw Chive 1600X
CRKT P.E.C.K.
In addition to a Gerber DF8 Sharpener.
I believe I'll be going to the local chapter of Insane Anonymous this evening...

I just got back in the door of the hotel room, and then spent the last half-hour carving them all of their form-fitting plastic tombs. Obviously haven't had a chance to do anything with them, and probably won't till I get back home over the weekend, and can get out to the farm. The only one I'm really scratching my head over is the PECK. I really don't like the outside blade design. But it's a Wharncliffe-style blade, and that'll get me every time... I am impressed with the Leatherman, which is built like a tank, and has a 154CM blade. The Gerber Presto is quite nice, but a bit bulky. The Kershaw's safety catch isn't the greatest, but the blade is quite sharp. The Trendy looks good to just drop in with the pocket change.
What I am really impressed with is the DF8 Sharpener. I'm not some great sharpening god. I generally use a little Gerber diamond pocket sharpener to touch up blades. But this thing is just light years above that. I had my old Aitor GAK in my travel kit. The blade on it was a disaster when I got it (heavily used military surplus, so...), and it took forever to get it into usable shape. Just for s & g's, I did a quick run through with the DF8... Just a few quick test run-throughs, and the Aitor was like a different knife. So, of all the things on the insanity tour today, that was actually justifiable.
I don't know about anything else...
