It's funny how I constantly post online about my knives, but never my multitools these days. The Leatherman Wave gets used more than every other multitool combined within my arsenal. I have a silver Wave that's used around the house from time to time, but it's the black oxide Wave that is my true love. It's forever in my outdoor pack, and on every adventure I take. It's pulled through frozen snowshoe bindings, lifted pots from hot camp fires, and whittled more fuzz sticks than I can remember. It's the one piece of gear in my pack that forever serves without complaint.

Thanks everybody. She truly deserves a glamor shoot, after all I’ve put her through.

I just happened to have my Wave on my belt at work today, while doing some Leatherman research. I’m trying to decide on a definitive method of carry for my Wave. It usually sits in my pack when hiking, but it’s a bit inconvenient. I use the Wave a lot, and would prefer not to have to take off my pack to get to it. So I figure that I have a few choices. Leave it in my pack, mount a sheath to the pack’s shoulder strap, carry it in a fanny pack, clip it to my pocket, or sheath it to my belt. Actually, that’s quite a few choices.

The pocket clip carry I’d be happy to use around camp, but not while traveling. When I’m wearing hiking shorts, clip carry just feels too heavy while walking mile after mile.

Sheath carry is a maybe. I love the Dale Park Station leather pancake sheath for my Buck 110, but I’m saddened by the fact hat they no longer produce sheaths. So I’m trying an old Charge nylon sheath today, with the two little elastic accessory slots in the side, to see how it feels. Does anybody have an idea of how these pouches hold up to extensive use? The slot that the belt slides through doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

Shoulder strap carry is maybe the best option. I just need to sew on some extra webbing to my shoulder straps, and find a good mag pouch that fits the Wave well.

Shoulder strap could be a good hike option as you can add other things to the webbing, etc.

The new nylon sheaths have a snap closure, so won’t have the Velcro wear issues.

Personally, can’t go wrong with the leather sheath.  :like:

I ordered up a couple of sheaths yesterday. One is a Maxpedition mag pouch for the shoulder strap. The other is a leather horizontal sheath from Nay’s Custom Leather.

I'm patiently waiting for my leather sheath to ship. But in the meantime, my Charge sheath is working out remarkably well.
