Multitool ADD
on: July 22, 2010, 06:32:14 AM
Anyone else get this?

A month ago I would have told you that the best knife for the job or the most perfect tool for the EDC was made by SOG. Two weeks ago, I would have said the same about Gerber. Now, I have an uncontrollable desire to buy a Charge (followed by, I'm sure, many other Leatherman products) and a Spyderco Endura.  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

It's not that I can't decide what I want... It's that what I want is always changing!  :ahhh

 :P  :D

Anyone else have these experiences?

yep.  As soon as one arrives, I have another lined up! It's a curse.  Soon you will become like Chako, who just leads a pipe out of the factory into his home.

What charge are you looking for?

With knives, yes. Multi-tools, not so much. Not that it stops me from buying something different and trying it out, but I just keep comming back to my Swisstool.

Unless you are lucky enough to find that special something, it's a long process. I have bought and sold lots of stuff in the search for "the right one". I tend to keep the MTs I am likely to use again though.

I think it's all part of the disease  >:D

I'm surprised Viper, you've been here a long time! with all the reviews and things we've all said,
I would have thought you tried many/several by now ;)

What happens to me is each tool has it's good points and I use them for that (try too).
so I like to have/try many lol

so many good tools out there, like books, I'll never get to all of them, but I can try! :D

Charger: The Charge TTI. I'm thinking maybe with the S30V blade I might not feel the need to carry a knife along with my multitool. Also, that style of Leatherman is more affective than the way Gerber does it. I got the FliK, which would have been very close to perfect if it wasn't IMPOSSIBLE to get the "One handed opening" blades out without either cutting yourself, or using two hands... I know that the Leathermans work better because I used to have a Wave. :P

WhichDawg: Yeah I know! I've been here for what, three and a half years? There was a long time I was really happy with my SOG equipment, but I had some trouble with their customer service which kind of turned me off of them. I then turned to Gerber, but the poor steel they use (added to the fact that my first FliK had a factory defect, and my Octane fell apart when it wasn't even being used) has turned me off of them now too. I am falling in love with the Core that I recently acquired in a trade, though. And so I think I'm starting to get the Leatherman bug.  ::)

I'm the exact same way with knives! And multitools, to a lesser degree now... I used to be much worse but once I got my SwissTool Spirit I was like "Honestly, how much better could it get??"

I am in that place where I am feeling out what I like and what works for me.  I am getting closer to this goal.  My goal is to obtain the best system and setup for me.  I already have one of my dream SAKs and my favorite large/fullsize multi.  I am also finding out that I like a certain brand of flashlights.  Once I get this figured out then for the most part I am done unless I need a replacement tool for a broken one.

It's a logistical chess game that can't ever be truly won . Just a question of what logistical compromise works for you . I would say it's more like Nymphomania than ADD , or to quote Mick " I can't get no satisfaction " .
