Logitech products and support +++
on: September 08, 2010, 06:17:14 AM
Logitech is one manufacturer that does support the Mac and I have been using their product starting with PC's many moons ago. Well yesterday my Logitech wireless DiNovo keyboard would not type an "A" or a "S" so I connected my original Mac keyboard to get me up and running. I bought the keyboard early last year on a closeout for $39. I called Logitech customer service today and was told that the DiNovo was no longer in production  and they would replace it under the keyboards 5 year warranty with a just released wireless keyboard #K800. I emailed them a copy of my receipt for the DiNovo and got a confirmation e mail within 30 minutes stating the new keyboard would ship today and also a return UPS label to send the broken DiNovo keyboard back to Logitech.  This was a very pleasant experience and I look forward to my new keyboard arriving by the end of the week. I also have a Logitech MX1100 wireless mouse that is a joy to use and built like a tank. No complaints with Logitech and I am a very satisfied customer.

I remember when my old trackball broke (the big wireless one).  Initially they asked me to return it for repair/replace, when I bleated to the customer support guy that it was a bit big and heavy he just asked me to return the battery cover with the serial number on as proof and they then send a new one out.  Which they did :)

My old Logitech laser mouse started squealing at me recently (electrical not mechanical) after years of use so I recycled it (it was getting pretty beat up anyway) and dug out an old MX Laser that I'd picked up at a boot sale for 50p.  Its OK.. but we are not getting on too well  :-\  So it looks like I may have to spend real money this time and buy a new one.  I don't like/want to blow a chunk of cash on a mouse but years of experience have told me that cheap mice are a false economy so it will be another Logitech.

Trackball or mouse, trackball or mouse?
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I have always bought Logitech stuff, as they support their products 100%.  I have found updated drivers for very outdated equipment before, and was very pleased.

My mother had a mouse that she had issues with, called Logitech Customer Service and they tried to troubleshoot it over the phone, but nothing worked.  The rep put her on hold for almost a minute before coming back and asking for her address to send her out a new one.  Having done this before she said she'd have the old one boxed up and ready to go back wit the courier when he arrived the next day.  The rep asked "Why?  We don't want it- it's broken!" saving her the effort of packing it up.  Sure enough, the next day the courier arrived with a brand new mouse for her, which was very handy as she lives about a two hour drive from any electronics retailers.

For the last year and a half or so I have had a Microsoft keyboard and mouse combo, and I have pretty much loathed it the entire time it's been in use.  The mouse rarely worked properly, and you had to click it several times for it to work.  It was like that since new, and fresh batteries didn't affect it one bit.  I'd been using my Logitech laptop mouse instead of the MS mouse for most of the time I'd had this MS set as the MS mouse was so bad.  Finally last night I got so annoyed with the set that I went to Staples and bought a new Logitech keyboard/mouse set.

The keyboard is much smaller and not one of those fancy ergonomic keyboards (like my MS one was) so it'll take some getting used to, but it's such a novelty to have a mouse that works that I'm sure I'll endure it.

Bottom line, Logitech equipment is as great as Microsoft equipment isn't.

As Grant well knows (he was my taxi driver at the time :D) I bought a Logitech G15 when I was last in Canada visiting.

I love it, and it's served me well so far in the past 2 years or so. The backlight is fantastically useful. The screen is typically just a clock in linux, however my MP3 player does have a plugin to show the track now playing...

it replaced a somewhat aging Logitech wireless Freedom Navigator Keyboard (and Mouse):

Since the mouse was a ball mouse I replaced it with my now well worn wireless Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse (the first laser mouse):

and now my replacement for my wireless laser, a wired laser (Logitech LS1):

Originally was only intended for gaming and while the wireless was charging. I use it full time now. It's even got that orange line to match my keyboard!

I also bought a second for the wife to use with the laptop (Logitech LS1):

And the wife's wireless replacement for a failing (Labtec optical USB) mouse on her desktop a Logitech LX6 :

Safe to say I have a lot of confidence in Logitech products... in most cases the replacements took over from devices that were about 4 years old... well worth the money!

I'm looking forward to the future when I replace the G15 with a G110 so I can change the backlighting color to suit my mood... not only orange!

That's the one I'm currently using.

The buttons front back of the wheel are bugging me though and occasionally it just doesn't seem to be .. particularly precise.  That's not the best description but all my feeble mind can muster right now.  I did pay around 50p from a carboot sale though so I'm not crying over it :)  Its got a few more days to go before I decide if I can live with it or not.

I've had an MX518 for a few years now, which replaced my MX500.  I bought it for stuff like Planetside where having a trillionty buttons on the mouse was handy.  Don't use the buttons as much, but I still love the mouse and that weird optical illusion coating on top.  My wife hates it though, as she always hits the extra buttons and causes something weird to happen :)

Never cared for Logitech keyboards, though.  I had a spacebar break on one, and a friend of mine has killed a number of spacebars on his, though they always replace them.  Of course, he types like a gorilla :P  I tend to like tiny keyboards (like Zippy brand).
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!

I never used all the buttons... I did reconfigure it with the software however... I'm quite happy with the LS1 config... even if it isn't wireless.

Same here :D

I'll always look to Logitech first where I can.

This is my mouse at the minute; Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse. The big sell for me was the nano receiver; I just plus it into my laptop and forget about it  :tu:  I've also got hooked on the on free wheel for hyper fast scrolling :D

I've had it for about two years now and it still works a treat; perhaps I'll look at upgrading soon.

Out of interest, how many of you use the additional buttons on these mice? I configure them but then forget about them  ::) :ahhh  Am a sucker for the keyboard shortcuts though  :tu:

I also have Logitech web camera and bluetooth headphone.

I'm using the M510 Laser Mouse ( http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/devices/6811?wt.mc_id=global_social-m510_redirect_FY11 ), works great as a budget gaming mouse, as well as the G13 Gamepad ( http://www.logitech.com/en-us/keyboards/keyboard/devices/5123 ). I also have their "Dual Action" Playstation controller clone that I use for my Emulators. It's all great stuff, well made, and holds up to the abuse of being lugged around with my laptop all the time.

I love Logitech products but I actually find nothing wrong with the Microsoft OEM ones. Especially the cheap laser mice.

And I switch between a netbook/laptop keyboard to a full-sized keyboard to a natural ergonomic Microsoft everyday so I really no longer have any trouble. But I do prefer the ergonomic one for typing... it's ergonomic!

Most of my laptop accessories are Logitech, however. :P

UPDATE:

Package from Logitech showed up today with the wrong keyboard inside a K340!

I called the rep at Logitech and said he would make it right and sent a K800 out via 2 day air, I asked if he wanted to send a UPS label to return the wrong one, he said no keep it.

In the meantime I found some Logitech DiNovo's for the Mac on closeout at Amazon for $40 ( MSRP is $100 ) so I ordered a couple of them . More friggin keyboards than I know what to do with...

My brand new Logitech keyboard was actually not such a great purchase.  Half the keys didn't work, and to be honest I was a bit disappointed in it.  But, I suppose anyone can crank out some lemons so I returned it to the store and bought a slightly more expensive keyboard/mouse combo that was now on sale for what I'd paid for the above one.  I'm much happier now as not only is the new keyboard more comfortable, but all the keys work too!

This is the one I got:
http://www.logitech.com/en-in/keyboards/keyboard-mice-combos/devices/5875

This is perhaps the most comfortable keyboard I've ever used.

looks very similar to mine in design, apart from it being low profile, wireless, and not backlit. I've not really found any low profile keyboards that I actually like.

Yeah, I like the backlighting and wish this one had it.  Also the LCD screen is not backlit so it's hard to see, but fortunately there's not really anything there that needs to be seen.  I wish it had a clock on it.

if it had the backlighting, it wouldn't be wireless... that or it would consume a lot of batteries...
