Wenger SI

I just got an 83 Wenger SI a few days ago. This just begged for a group shot. So here it is.

A little Leatherman information.

 very very nice, and a nice idea with the 83 in the last shot :tu:
Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time

Go a Wenger SI today.

Beefs:
no date stamp
Alloy seems chalky.
Quite soft "snap" on blades.
noticable difference in height/alignment of backsprings.

Good bits: I find the hollow rivet/bail attractive.

that's the first time I've ever heard anyone have any problems with the soldier, vic or wenger. Does anyone else have problems with the SI? I only have 3 Vic soldiers, so I know nothing about the SI.

The lack of date stamp is not really a fault of the tool, and the softer snap is probably just my preference, not fault, the "chalky" alox might smooth up with some hand time, it could just be from sitting in a store box for however long.

I do find the uneven back springs a little odd though. My Vic Soldier (and indeed every other SAK) have perfectly lined up backsprings and liners/scales, but my Wenger SI has the Main blade backspring laying a little lower. I don't know if I can photo it due to the ineptitude of my photography, and the shininess of the springs would make it hard to see.

Has anyone had a problem like this with any SAK? (alox or otherwise)

Yes, all of these would think nothing of lopping a finger tip off with their snap. Can't say that I have encountered the issue with any of my SIs, both Wenger and Victorinox.

I've got an '01 SI, and while it might slow a little with it's snap when it gets dirty, it comes right back after a bath!

If you've got an SI without date stamp, I'd say you've got a new one (post '08, last year Wenger made any for army issue, so last year for date stamps), so it hasn't been sitting around that long.  I'd hate to think they let their quality control go that quick on their only Alox model.
