I have dealt with the Karma system, on a skiing forum (newschoolers.com). It just ends up exactly as Def described. Everyone is begging for + and use - to mark anyone they don't agree with. I don't have a ton of experience on BladeForums, but I am registered there in case I wanted to read any of the threads there. They seem... so strict. :-\
"I would rather live 40 years of excitement and fun and exhilarating and just WOOOO, full volume, then 80 years of la di di di da... you know... boring. Why not get out there and live it?!"

Well this is funny. Either marcinek loves google himself or somebody here ratted me out, but my account at knifeforum just got banned in the past few days, for the same BS charge he gave me 7 months ago, and I didn't even post anything since.

I primarily hang out in the "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades" forum with the folksy folks which are a pretty good bunch. I try and stay out of the dark places.

I have found the Maintenance, Tinkering & Embellishment to be a wealth of information on sharpening especially a member named knifenut1013. He has been really friendly and answered many questions I had. He even told a member to call him so he could talk him through a problem he had with a sharpener over the phone. He does amazing work if you haven't seen it.

Seriously, MTO is like an oasis on the internet. Over these past few months I've seen kindness and friendliness I didn't even see in TGF's golden days. Thank you guys.  :multi: and

Right you are!
People here are a bit too nice sometimes...It's a bit suspicious...

There are thousands of forums across the internet, all conforming to the net norms by being bitchy, egocentric and not talking about pliers with pickle forks on.

MTO rebels against this norm by being .... nice :)

Group hug anyone?
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Software upgrade the day before automatically banned everyone who had a warning/strike at any point in the past. They are still trying to figure out how to fix this and some other issues.
