Either of the Spydies - no question.  1, because you just know it is awesome and 2, because I was not impressed at all with the action on the Slippy Subcom and if the Trance is the same I'd be a little disappointed.

The Subcom is a fair bit smoother now than it was at the meet :)

The problem (for me) is that the spydies are all hollow ground :-\

OK then what about the steel's involved?

I've used Aus8 for years, and know it to be a good real world steel :) I've no experience with Gin1

Close enough that you probably can't tell the difference

How does the trance 42 work? Seems it have a lock bar?

Never seen it before, interesting way of making a slip joint, by deliberately making a faulty lock. :D

It is very secure, it's certainly not going to fold on you without some provocation :)

Glad to hear the Subcom has improved, I was a bit disappointed with its initial action  :-\

No advice on those three as I don't think I'd buy any of them personally.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

TBH, neither would I.  The Boker does nothing for me really and the lightweight UKPK's don't do too much for me either after the recent pics.  But, out of those given, the Spydies would be my choice.

I do feel the same way as you two really :-\

In fact the only really drool worthy OH slippie for me is still the Spydie Urban, but there just far to expensive for what they are for me to be able to justify one :(

If I lived on the other side of the pond with you guys and these were my choices I'd opt for the Boker. The Trance is a bit small but I do own the locking version and found despite it's frame size it is workable in my hand. But essentially the selling points here for me are the Boker's thumbstud and it's ability to be carried Tip-Down. I am not a fan of thumbholes and Tip-Up carry is a major NO-NO.

Years ago I bought a Boker Trance and for the money it was an excellent value. Good blade shape and cutter. Mine was a very smooth opener. I ended up gifting it to my officemate when he showed me this poorly made CRKT tanto he carried. He immediately switched to the Trance.

Now, for wide blades I like flat ground as well. I know it is twice the price but the Urban would be a great little knife

I'm glad there's a bit of love for the Trance :tu:

Like I said in an earlier post, I'd get an Urban tomorrow but for the stupid price :-\

I don't have any of them but I'm oddly drawn to the Trance.  Not normally the style of knife I go for but I do like the look of it.  As Ben says though, you'd be hard pushed to find fault with the Spyderco and of the two the leaf shape would be my preference.

Might be worth keeping in mind that there seems to be a possibility of a new Byrd being discussed over on BB, blade length of 2 3/4" so slightly shorter than the UKPK.  It's still in the prototype stage though so no idea when it might go into production.

I expect it'd be too stiff to use it as a flipper :-\
