Who was the first poster and when did this place come online and anything else you all care to chime in about the early years?

Awwww... ;) :D

Welcome to the new Forum Software for Multitool.org.  Please bear with us while we set things up here, but in the meantime feel free to post and test out the options that are available to you. At this point, I welcome any comments and suggestions as we build the new forum into what we are hoping will be the best independant multitool reference source in the world!

Close Allan!

In fact, that was the first post for this incarnation of the forum.  We test drove several "forums" before settling on the Simple Machines software as the best option for us.  The first forum was actually at multitool.org/forum rather than forum.multitool.org.  I don't remember what other brands of software we test drove, but I remember registering several accounts on it and arguing with myself day after day to try and get the settings absolutely right.

Multitool.org also sat on the back burner for almost a year before finally being forced into the open half finished.  The theory was if we let it sit until it was absolutely right, it would never get done since it always took a back seat to more important things that were already live that needed attention.

I also wondered in the early days how to possibly get a forum started- it seemed like such an uphill climb.  Ah, those were the days....  :D

I love this type of stuff! I used to hate history but have grown to really enjoy how things have come to pass.

I recall signing in after getting home from work each evening and getting only 5 posts when I clicked "Show unread posts since last visit" ;)

Nowadays I often get 5 pages! :D

Is been a crazy ride, its amazing when you take one mans dream and one mans tenacity and out them together. I have thanked Grant many times for making this site possible, until he stepped in it was just a dream and a passion of mine that might not have ever got off the ground. I just couldn't build a sure on s onite my own, let alone have time to run it. Now we got folks all over the world lending a hand. Man I live this place  :multi:

It's great to see so many of the "old" names still active here.  There's a bunch that I miss, although I understand people move on in life.  I've been a member of KF since '97 or so, and there are very few members that were around then still left.

For those not sure exactly what Dave means by that, Dave started the first multitool websites, MultiPro, then the Multitool Manifesto when Multipro fizzed out.  When the Manifesto didn't get anywhere, he joined Knifeforums and SOSAK, where I met him.  I was toying with the idea of developing a multitool website, which I wasn't aware anyone had done yet, and Dave told me about what he had done.  We took some of the reviews he'd initially written for the Manfesto and they helped provide content for the main site at Multitool.org along with some other reviews I'd written.  I think all told we launched with maybe twelve or fifteen reviews.  We are somewhere around ten times that many now, with over 150 multitools reviewed and a few more waiting in the wings.  I had about 25 multitools then, and figured that had to be pretty well the World's biggest collection, as I didn't know anyone else collected these things.  Boy was I wrong!  :D

I was never really happy with the "unfinished" look for the main site, but like I said, we had to launch half finished or we never would have.  I figured we'd fix up the main site as we went along, but other than a few tweaks and addons, we never really did.  But, that may change very soon... :D

Some folks liken me to a pitbull, as when I get hooked on something I stick with it, almost obsessed.  Most things I'm pretty easily distracted, but every now and then something gets under my skin and I chase it down to the ground and drive it in.  Multitool.org became like that for me after it launched and I'm sure that's what Dave meant when he referred to tenacity!  At least that's what I hope he meant!  :D

Hi all,

I am new to the site, but not new to the world of multitools.

I currently own a PST and am looking to purchase the tool adapter.  Does anyone know where the best place is to get one (in the UK), and where I can also get a pouch that holds both the tool and the adapter with its bits?

Thanks

Benner

:D
