Custom Scale
on: September 21, 2010, 06:14:56 PM
Well I just had to share this with you guys.  I wanted something special for my XM-18 so I contacted a buddy who does custom scales.  I sent him paint shopped picks of a "fish bone" scale that I wanted him to create for me that would glow in the dark. As you can see he did an incredible job. :tu:

That's fun :D  How long does the glow last?
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Groovy  :tu:

If it's the new fancy glow powder in the mix, you should get 7-8 hours of decent glow after 10min charging. I love GITD stuff :)

Neil, it's not warm to the touch, but since I have been carrying it I feel a little nauseous and my hair is starting to fall out. :D

Of course you do Neil. We would expect nothing less :D

24hrs is impressive glow power  :tu:

I have a tritium habit myself but it's not as bright as good glowpowder when charged.

Wow what a cool mod. Nice to see some blue glow. Normally most people (myself included!) go for green.

Has the glow powder/epoxy been machined or sanded, as that sometimes can make it glow a little less.

Actually, it still glows green in the dark.  These are the pics Jeff sent me, so I will post some pics of it in the dark when I receive it in a couple of days.  Jeff uses a custom powder that is much finer than anything else out there along with some type of special fiberglass resin set up that allows him to work with it for as long or little as he needs without extensive machining or sanding.  Based on what I have seen in his past works, he has absolutely no issues with glow intensity or uniformity.  He also makes knives.  You can see his stuff here:  http://www.kargknives.com/

I agree that it looks cool, but I wanted the scale to look like a fossil. ;)  Also, I am keeping the orange scale that I already have so that I can change them out when I need to.  The orange scale will be used for camping, hiking, and fishing so that there will be very little chance of loosing it should I drop it.

 Looks really cool  :tu:

It is actually not a paint but an epoxy/glow powder mixture that has been filled into the design cut out.

just placed my order for a new scale.  Its going to be a bluish tint G11 with the same crosshatch pattern on the ti u'zann scale.  Holding off on the glow stuff right now, but it will be coming soon.
