Pens
on: October 01, 2010, 03:35:58 PM
I've been looking for a good pen. I want a good solid pen but really don't want a "tactical" pen. I really like the Countycomm Embassy pens but also like the looks of this....

http://www.coloradopen.com/product/Retro_1951_Tornado_Roller_Ball_Red/retro_1951_tornado_pens

Does anyone have any experience with this or something similar? Any other suggestions? I want a big heavy "man's" pen that is durable and rugged but also classy looking, and also somewhere around $50 or less.

Thanks guys!!!  :tu: :tu:

I've played with them, they are nice and hefty. I think you would be pretty happy with one.

Just curious... what's wrong with a Parker Jotter with a "space pen" refill?  At most 10 bucks combined.

Nothing wrong with it, but my birthday's coming up and I want my wife to spend more than 10 bucks on me.  :D :D :D

You know, I used to have the same issue with space pen refills, until I went with the fine tip--no more boogies!

The fine tip is more like the width of most mediums anyway...

Recently, Benner got me to thinking.

I began using the very nice Cross pens I've been given for graduations.  Really enjoy them.  Are they still considered a nice pen?

(I think they have an engraving service, you could get "Ducktapehero" engraved on it  :D)

I'm guessing a Inka Pen is too "gadgety"?

I'm a big fan of a nice Rotring Freeway.  I have one paired up with a Pilot G2 gel ink refill in fine - it's the pen I use to write all my contracts with at work.  Nice, solid, German-made aluminium pen.

I really like this too. I do like Sharpies and this looks great.

That is really neat. Although I think I would not carry it for fear of losing something that spendy.

I decided on the black Embasy pen from County Comm. Or at least I THINK that's what the wife is getting me. I'm hoping she gets it engraved for me.

I received my Retro 51's yesterday, and I'm impressed.  The weight and balance is good, the tactile feel of the knurling and smooth retract is very nice.  The rollerballhas a nice smooth feel and doesn't seem to bleed like some.

I bought the Route 66 one for myself and the leather one for SWMBO, and they're both handsome.

I got my Embassy pen a couple of days ago. My wife got it engraved for me but had trouble finding an engraver. Anyway, this thing is nice. I got the aluminum black one instead of the stainless steel one and I'm glad. This is a pretty heavy pen, I can't even imagine how heavy the stainless one is. It's just a touch shorter than I thought it would be but actually that makes it just a bit more handy. I love this thing. I wanted a heavy duty pen but I didn't want one that looked like a dagger. The rounded edges will keep me from stabbing myself.

I would post pix but cannot get a decent pic. Here's the link of what they look like again for those who haven't seen it....

Take a look at Zebra pens here

Or Fisher Space Pen here

Personaly I like Fisher Trekker, but think this will be great for you:

I'm not big on the "tactical" pens but I like the look of that.  Looks good and solid without looking like it was made to be anything other than a pen.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I'm glad you got one you like.  And yes, a pen that is too heavy can be a challenge to write with.  I once had a brass bullet pen (not to be confused with space pen) from brigadeqm many years ago - and I mean made from actual brass shells - took a Parker refill - and it was super heavy.  I loved the pen but it was overkill.  I like some of the Cross pens and have a small collection of those in various finishes.
