What kind of work?  Depending on the type of work, I'd probably take different tools.

J-Sews has a couple of brother in laws that do construction- I think one is a plumber and the other is an electrician (?) and they seem to be big fans of the Core.  I think maybe he may have converted them to different tools, but it's been a while since he updated us on what those two were using!

Maybe he'll be nice and fill us in!

It's just got to be the swisstool, it simply does not matter what you throw at it, it will get the job done, and look beautiful while doing it ;D

Yessir, my two enormous Brother-in-Laws are now die-hard Core fans. Both are in the plumbing trade, mostly on new commercial construction projects. They use a multitool more in one month than I will use in a year. The Core has everything they need, and nothing they don't:

heavy-duty construction
long length screwdrivers
large knife, saw, and file
easy access to blades, even with large fingers/no fingernails

But like we all know, what works best for one guy may not be best for another.

Or those even stranger people that don't carry a multitool or even a SAK!  Hard to believe these folks can even exist these days...

That's nice to know.  Around here you see maybe one in 50 or so that has a multitool on their belts.  It's kind of depressing actually!

I've only seen one person with a Swisstool, it was on a lunch break last summer, he looked like he worked in construction.

I've seen numerous people with numerous proffessions with Leathermans, but I'm not sure which time, judging by the cases, mostly PSTs and Waves. The owner of a band store I go to has one even!

I've seen 2 or 3 Gerbers, not sure if they were tools or knives though.

I don't think I've ever seen a SOG though....

Most people probably just have a lockblade or a Swiss Army Knife.

It's funny, when I used to interview people I used that as a criteria for rating them.  Anyone carrying a real SAK or multitool got hired almost on the spot.  Anyone carrying a tactical folder, gentleman's knife or knockoff got put in the maybe pile, and folks who came in empty handed had to convince me they were worth hiring.

My explanation is that anyone who carries a multitool or SAK is a hands on, versatile person that seems better likely to handle a variety of situations, and therefore be a better asset to the company than folks with knowledge or experience in one area.

What if the guy had two multitools on his belt and a SAK in his pocket?  ;)

One of the guys at the Quiznos sub shop next to us is constantly borrowing my tools (no multis, just my cheap, dedicated loaners), he's responsible with them, they're not abused or misused, however I have started dropping hints that he should just buck up and buy an inexpensive/affordable multi, like a Gerber 400/600 or the Leatherman Fuse, he usually needs pliers or screwdrivers, but he does make it up to us by giving us free beverage refils all day, I could buy a drink in the morning and go over all day until closing getting constant refils

he really needs a good basic Multi though....

I agree with the Kick! It's really my favorite user. Inexpensive, light, and just the tools you're sure to use :) Makes a good gift!
