Unique Florist
on: October 08, 2010, 04:25:00 AM
I saw a Vic Florist on eBay with a keyring, which I had never seen before.  I purchased said Florist for just over $10.  Here are photos.  I am digging this blade.

Anyone ever seen one like this?  I'll be tossing a lanyard on it and taking it on the go from time to time.  It has a nice solid feel.  The back spring has a great snap, similar to the heavy back spring of the 108mm Vics.

Cheers

Wow nice.
Can't say I know much about the knife but I like that sheepsfoot like blade, great for whittling.

Its actually a pretty common florist or gardeners knife, the blade that is. The fact that it has a key ring is VERY unusual. Normally they do not have a key ring.

Yes the key ring was what I was referring to.

EDIT: Apparently they are not super rare. Katie also had one, and now it is for sale.

I actually prefer the wharncliffe blade model with its very sharp point and flat edge blade.

Definitely unique.  If I ever saw one of those, I might consider picking it up.  I presume they are rare.

They are quite new. They are called "Blumenmesser" over here and come in a few different colors.  But they don't have a keyring

The keyring version of the Gardener/Florist is known as the Twine Knife, it's not as common as the Gardener but it's not rare.  They have been readily available for a couple of years if not more, just a lot of regular Vic dealers don't carry them like most of the others in the horticultural series.

Interesting... the Blumenmesser is not available in red or black, and is announced as new in 2010. So the Florist was only available in the US and is now over here too?

The Gardener knives (sometimes marketed as Florist) have been available worldwide for many years.  They may not have refered to it as a Blumenmesser as generally in the most markets they are just refered to as Grafting or Horticultural knives.  The new 2010 models are just the nice new bright colors on the basic model of the Gardener.

I'd like a set of the new 2010 colored Gardeners, but have not found a reliable source at a good price.  They are only marketed in Europe right now.  The knives are very inexpensive from a good dealer.  Maybe Tim should order a bunch offcially or through a back door.

These "new" Gardener colors aren't actually new; they've been available from the same website that originated the Star Wars Classics for no less than a year, if not more.  Also comes in purple, lime green, and a couple other colors. :salute:

I bought some Blumenmesser from Victorinox at Ibach.

They are available in: black, red, light blue, light green, violet and pink.

The black one has brass liners. The other colors have alu liners. Red and black are available since many years.

As already mentioned by others here the floral knives are pretty common and not rare. Even with keyring the black and red (Economy) are available from some online Shops, at least here in Switzerland. They are also listed in the Victorinox catalog 2008.
Black "Gardener" 1.9051 , red "Gardener" 3.9051.   See also SAKWiki.

I guess I should just say unique compared to the keyring-less variant.  I have only seen 2 Florists with keyrings on eBay so far.  There have been virtually 100's of normal Florists w/o the keyring listed in comparison.
