Flashlights w/ "locator light"
on: October 19, 2010, 04:46:27 AM
I have a Maglite with an IQ switch from NiteIze which blinks a small red LED in the tail cap when the light is off. Makes it very easy to find in the dark. Anyhow, other than the MagLites with an IQ switch, are there any other flashlights (or accessories for flashlights) that have this feature?

Do all the Zebralight models have that? I just clicked on a few at random and none mentioned that feature?

Novatac and the RA Clicky lights have a locator feature that you can turn on and off where the LED will blink very dim every 5 seconds or so.

With most of them it's a standard accessory... meaning it is in the package but you'll have to swap the factory-standard black one for it.

I have my Novatac 120P set w/ the locator on.  It works well with the crenelated bezel.

I also have a nice neutral-tint lantern that has a separate LED locator on the side:

My Orb Raw has a little tritium vial locator fitted. Works perfectly.

I am looking at Deal Extreme now and am shocked at the prices. I found a few nice lights, and even with CR123 batteries and a charger the total comes out to less than $25. Based on the reviews, many of these models seem to be on par performance wise with the much pricier $150+ lights from SureFire and the like. I know nothing about flashlights, so there are quite a few reviews to read over/wade through, but most of the ones I'm currently considering are made by MX Power (such as this one that is at the top of my list currently: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.31730).

There's more to flashlight than lumens. That said you can get flashlight comparable with SF at much lower price, given SF practice price fixing and set retail price that sellers much follow.
