I like the slimness of my Neil supplied Taylor's like yours , but I reckon the Tonyfied Taylor's would be pretty comfortable & not too mention a little bit nice looking    :D :D

But Tony I think it is a bit of a naughty knife in the UK   . Best send that law breaker Down Under with all the other law breakers that are already here  >:D >:D :D :D :D

Thanks Mate
These are really nice to work with and at your price it doesn’t matter too much if it goes pear-shaped

What are you using to slice the wood thin like that?  I recently finagled a bandsaw from the in-laws, and I'd like to try my hand at making a few scales, but haven't been sure what to use to thin the stock down.  I guess I could put a gate on the bandsaw and do it...

I used a band saw
but it wasn't very good at cutting accurate slices, the blade wanders around a bit and they end up like thin wedges, I am not sure why, Maybe the blade needs more tension but I can't adjust mine
I think a table saw might be the best thing to use
Good luck with yours  :tu:

Luckily enough, I'm likely to be getting a table saw in a couple of weeks!  We'll see what happens of that.  Then...look out old scrap walnut!

Good luck with the table saw and don't forget band and table saws are good at removing fingers (I always count my fingers after using my band saw)  :D

Thanks Guys, I'm sitting here fondling it at the moment
One tip is to glue it with the blade out  :tu:
Another is try not to let glue get in to the lock release  :-[

Very nice Tony and gives a slightly different meaning to having gun-stock scales. :tu:

Gareth,
There's a kind of file I believe called a 'checkering file', If I can get my hands on one this knife might look a bit more like that stock  :tu:

Only once? You don't know me very well Neil  :D

I think you'd want checkering cutters for doing wooden scales.  If I remember my gunsmithing straight, checkering files are just for checkering metal.

I bet I could cut myself on a hot air balloon  :D

I think the air pockets disappear at 200degrees centigrade  :tu: but I think the white writing turns black  :(
The problem I have is the plastic seems to be softer than the walnut so in some places I have undercut the the plastic with my polishing wheel  :-\

Just sand the walnut back a little by hand, make it curvier but should still look OK :tu:
