Yep. I just think the Fatboy would be bulky enough that I would wind up never actually using it. Hell, the Thermite may bug me. I think for the trade-offs the Thermite just suits my needs better. If I'm out hiking and need to carry more I have other ways to do it. For what little I carry EDC (compared to other forum members, it's still way more than the average person lol) I think the Thermite will work out just fine.

Glad you picked one and welcome to the club!

I do carry a water bottle so the Jumbo fits me perfectly.  My staff makes fun of it but in the end they all end up putting it on and realizing it's pretty useful, all the while making lispy comments.  Whatever, they make fun of my multitool addiction too, but I have about 9 of them loaded out with various leatherman's and SOG's.

What color did you pick?

Gonna go with the Foliage Green. The black somehow manages to look both to plain and to "tacticool" at the same time. The other colors just give it too much of a "wannabe soldier" vibe for EDC. The Foliage Green has a nice neutral, subdued vibe to it. Not overly plain, but not calling attention to itself either. If I can't talk my gf into getting one for my birthday, I'll just order one for myself anyway. Been wanting a Fatboy for a while but could never justify it when I know I'd wind up never wanting to lug it around. Somehow never knew the Thermite existed till now. It's amazing how much money being a member here costs lol.

I know what you mean.

The black bag blends very well and it's hard to see what it is from afar, that's why I like it so much.  The only other colors that I would go with are foliage and OD.  I don't like the camo for EDC either.  Everyone ends up asking when you served and for how long, and being as young as I am they wanna know if I was injured and had to come home.  I have not served due to medical reasons(believe me I tried), so I don't want to act like I did just because I wanted to.  My brother is in the service, and I respect him to much to pose(not to mention it's just tacky to pose).

Not to go down the TEOTWAWKI path too much here, but.. black is plain. Looks like a camera bag.

Unless you intend to put twenty different MOLLE pouches and organizers on it along with a dozen patches about "Infidels" and such.. calling attention to yourself.. black is the "gray man" option.

Now I want a moral patch about "the infidels" just because the thought of walking around like that cracks me up. Black is actually a bit "too" plain to me, and I'm just so sick of all the "tactical" black mall ninja stuff floating around, I want something that stands out enough to not look like I think I'm a SWAT member, especially if I decide to waist/leg carry it, but not all like "look at me, I'm wearing camo so I'm a hard-ass" either. Besides the foliage is just a nice color. Everyone has black lol.

I just got myself a Maxpedition Larkspur.  Not used it yet and I wouldn't call it a manpuse, or even a manbag - just a bag.

Looking forward to trying it out...

Water bottle? No. Camelbak? Yes.

No. Not really. A patch or two isn't really what I mean.

Black is actually a bit "too" plain to me..

I have a Fatboy in black and one in OD. I like them both. But the plainness of the black is what appeals to me about it. Carrying the OD one anywhere but in the outdoors tended to get questions and occasional looks. Nobody seems to even notice the black one. I like that a lot. It means nobody questions the contents. And that is a very good thing.

Me too. But I think "mall ninja" is an attitude and a complete look (and possibly a mental disorder). I can't imagine a black bag leading anyone to think you are a wanna be.

Yeah, I can see that. Leg carry is a tough one. Seems like no matter what way you go there it kinda comes across as tactical. I haven't looked at the bag you are checking out, but.. the Fatboy comes in some decidedly civilian colors.

I'm with ya on camo. I'll save it for duck season.

Aha, now the truth comes out.  :D

Foliage is a cool color. I agree.

You won't regret the money spent on anything from Maxpedition. High quality gear.

Lol.

My Jumbo is black, and the only attention or comments it draws is when I'm asked "Is that a camera bag, where did you get it"?

Mostly though, nobody bats an eyelid!

That's why I went with the Jumbo in black as well.  It looks like a satchel, diaper bag, camera bag.  No one really even looks at it, and my wife even likes it.  I am ogling the maxped pouches that I can get to put on the PALS attachments.  Don't really need them but they sure are cool.

I was actually just looking at the 5.11 Tactical PUSH Pack. I like it quite a bit. Still bigger than I'd like though.

I carried the jumbo around today, and it was pretty cool.  I didn't get any odd looks from anyone, though it got a little heavy after awhile.

I had the following crammed in there:

Bottle of water in the bottle holder
Leatherman Blast
Leatherman Crunch
Book
FAK
Contacts in case
spare contacts in case
Glasses case
Saline bottle
gum
assorted pens
clif bar
Vic Cadet
rite in the rain notebook
stain stic
fire starter kit with kindling and back up lighter
keys
baby diaper emergency kit

Not a lot, but it starts to wear on you after about an hour.

I carried an army surplus map bag for years.  One of the inexpensive $15 one made in India.  Nice heavy canvas.  worked fine for me for 10 years or so.  I mostly only carried my daily survival kit in it.  Book, drawing pad, small tool kit, some band aids and tylenol.  If you aren't sure if you want to carry a bag around, buy something cheap like this and carry only stuff you know you'll need.  see if you like it and can put up with people making fun of your purse.  5 minutes later they will ask if someone has a band aid and you can decide if you want to make him beg. >:D

I don't EDC it, but sometimes I carry a black Jumbo. Strangers don't seem to notice. The only thing coworkers have said is that it's "interesting," because of it's asymmetrical, unconventional design; all I had to say to explain it is that it's the perfect size to carry my lunch, water bottle, and a book. If friends mention the word "purse," I explain that is was designed as a gun bag, and then the macho factor overrides the wussy factor, and they don't mention it again.

"Who carries a manpurse?" Well, I do now  :mail:

Got my Countycomm bag today finally. It spent  4 DAYS at the UPS facility half an hour from my house. Then the dipsmurf driver delivered it to the vacant house next door. Luckily I figured it out before somebody else did. It's a great bag. A bit smaller than I was expecting, which is actually a good thing. It's about perfect. I'll get some pics and a full review up later this week. Too late to bother with right now, and I will be out of state tomorrow checking out apartments and working on putting my GFs work transfer through. Maybe Wednesday I'll be able to get something up. For now this is what I have in it:
Powerlock
CT-34
Case with some sockets and a widgey bar
A few feet of paracord
Some zip ties
First aid kit and a couple of space blankets
Water bottle
Hat
Gloves
Wrist brace
Couple pens/markers
Camera, case, spare batteries, etc.
Flashlight

Still have plenty room to spare. Very well made, doesn't look in the least bit tactical, comfortable to wear. I'm quite happy with it.

The standard size Maratac Bailout Bag in black.
http://www.countycomm.com/BAILOUTBAGGEN5.htm
It's a fair bit smaller than the pictures make it look, which for me was overall a good thing, but if you wanna carry a lot you'll need to get the XL version.

That looks like an awesome bag!  Glad to hear you hopped on the manbagwagon.  Interesting loadout, seems to cover a wide variety of scenarios.

My co workers raz me continuously about my jumbo, they are relentless.  But, almost all of them have started carrying backpacks.

Yeah I quite like it. I have no intention of actually carrying it everywhere "manpurse style", but it will most certainly come with me in the car, and most likely be used for carrying lunch to work, and a few other scenarios as well. I have nothing going on today and it's snowing pretty hard, so I'll be putting together a full write up with pics at some point later today. I found that there is very little information out there about this bag, and no reviews other than a couple people describing what they fill it with, so I want to do do something a fair bit more in depth.

I would appreciate the pics and review, as I am considering one of those some day.

I do carry my jumbo pretty much everywhere, except in and out of wal mart and gas stations and such.  It goes in the car and to work and back, and if I go out to the mall or somewhere in Austin(the nearest town of any size) it comes with me everywhere.

I have tried so hard to not post here but I can not hold off  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

When ever I see someone carrying a manpurse ,  I spring too the ready in-case the poor chap faints due to the severity of the mild humidity that is surely going to knock the stuffing out of him & fireman lift him to the nearest pub. At the pub he pulls out a battery powered hand fan, from his manpurse  ;), whilst sipping from his rose-petal non alcoholic Daiquiri.
I quickly finish my pint of beer & race off to rescue another manpurse chap who is stranded at the top of a set of rather steep stairs, if only he had use of BOTH his hands :ahhh :ahhh :D :D :D.

Manpurse sounds all WRONG  :pok: :pok: 'tactical satchel'  :D :D :D 'BIG wallet' or what about my 'hand grenade bag'. Manpurse  ??? ??? ??? ??? :D

BTW John sent me a very handy SPEC-OPS 'Bloke Bag' as an extra in a trade, which one day I may use in public  :D :D.
It is a very handy case for storing small knife/tool parts  :D :D.

"Downunder Mod (that sounds dirty, doesn't it?)"
Yeh Baby :P >:D >:D
