Highest quality small flashlight available
on: November 13, 2010, 01:49:20 AM
Hi,

I am looking for a flashlight of very high quality - Waterproof, very strong durable caseing, just overall high quality.

Preferably as small as possible as it will be on my keys so 100mm or less and it will be bumped around and used with wet hands consistently

Can anyone recommend some brands they know which fit this criteria?

Thanks

TCGB

A big question you'll want to ask yourself is; do you want a multi-level light?
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Hm... seems to be something missing from your quote.

A big question you'll want to ask yourself is; do you want a multi-level light, punk?

Much better!

In all seriousness, Gareth is right.  It really depends how strong, how much you want to pay, and whether you want a multi-level light for your keychain.

Furthermore:  what battery type?  AA, AAA, CR123, CR2, etc; there are a number of flashlights that take uncommon battery types beyond the aforementioned normal battery types, though many of those get into the realm of CPF customs.

Oh, don't start pushing McGizmo's on him, that's just mean...

TCGB, why don't you start with a budget that you're willing to pay, and we can narrow it down from there.

So, your #1 interest is high quality, and second is that the light is small.  Do I read that right from the OP's question?

As others have mentioned, we definitely need to narrow this down.  Preferred cell is where I would start.

If you want a high quality, extremely robust light that's also compact, with operation so simple they should never go wrong, then I think you should have a good look at Fenix's E01 or an Arc P. Both are in an aaa format, so have the added bonus of being very cheap to run, on the worlds most common battery type too :tu:
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

Another thing you might consider is, how many minutes to you want the light to run before changing the battery?

This will help narrow down the preferred cell type due to power/runtime trade offs.

The ITP A3 is a very good light. Check it out, http://www.itplight.com/product_show.asp?id=197
The Preon Revo by 4Sevens might also be worth a look. http://www.4sevens.com/product_info.php?cPath=297_332_411&products_id=2411

ITP, Fenix and 4sevens - all great brands - but "highest quaility"??

Middle of the road those IMO.  A nice Ti Arc or similar would be a nicer product IMO.

Yeah, TCGB you really need to nail down a price point here.  When you say "top of the line", you could be thinking $50-60-70, when "top of the line" in flashlights is $300-400+.

When someone asks about "highest quality", Fenix doesn't even cross my mind.

Thanks for your responses so far everyone you have all been a big help

Now to narrow it down a little more - company I work for will be paying the bill so money is not an issue at all

I have been looking at all the flashlights everyone has put forward and my favourite so far is the ARC AAA LED Titanium, very nice peice of equipment there

BUT...I need to present more to my boss in the 'high qualiy' department for a decision to be made, but in saying that so far the ARC Titanium is above the rest.

Keep the ideas coming guys thanks.

There similar quality wise to Fenix's imo, but they do use a different (and better if you ask me) operating system :)

It's really a shame though, AFAIK, there are no longer any "ramping" Nitecore PD lights in production.

Look to some of those

http://www.jetbeamusa.com/categories/Civillian-Series/

I have BK135A and will post a rev (as soon as I translate it from my native)...

Now I'm preparing my budget for Raptor RRT 0 - think this is excellent little flash light with outstanding specs. Some of the features I like most are: it can use both AA and CR123 batteries, it has SS Rapid Response Control Ring which allows the user to easily select different brightness levels, five brightness levels, reflector you can choose between OP and SMO, etc. etc....

Bloody good thing...

HDS Systems aka Ra would be worth a look.

Otherwise surefire are pretty well regarded. Have a look through their range and see if anything grabs you.

Really?  Wonder why they have done that?

From the few comments I've seen from Nitecore, they seem to think that only the "flashaholics" like the ramping UI better than what replaced it.  Flashaholics of course make up only a small percentage of their sales.

I guess that is the case.  Still, for a UI I thought the ramping would have suited most people. Clearly not though!

Doubly glad I picked up my EX10 then.
I'm back!!
